Clunking/grinding Noise

after some advise please chaps.

i was parking my car in a parking bay earlier on today and the wheel was turned almost to full lock on the right. as the car slowly moved into the bay and i was tweaking the wheel position, i heard a clunking/grinding kinda noise - prosumably from something connected to the steering mechanism, etc (dunno the technicals!). on my way home i cautiously tried this again and the same happend! no noise that i noticed when turning the wheel to the left.

i checked my power steering fluid level, and thats fine - just below the max line.

any ideas??

I used to have the same issue. Not sure how I fixed it however.

Think it was okay after I had my first geometry check, but I could be wrong.

i've not noticed this before though.

i had my geometry done about 4 weeks ago now (just before i went on holiday).

the car has no uprated springs or coilies BTW

This is exactly what mine does sounds like something is really about to fall off the car, When i took it to Ipswich Gavin there pretty much diagnosed it before we got in the car, Something to do with the parts that hold the front pads in place he said i think the spring lose there "springyness" after a while and hence the pads can become loose, So next week its going into get a new brake fitting kit put on it.

Im hoping this will solve the embarrasing noises my car makes, But he seemed quite confident and knowledgeable on it so i will trust him.

The cost was about £130 all in for parts and labour, I dont mind spending the money if it does the job!!

One other thing he said when he first started with Lexus he thought as well like me and maybe you that it was the suspension but he soon learned actually its the brakes and they have done a few of them now.

However I know next too nothing about cars so just passing on the few bits i remember him telling me.

thats an interesting thought....never suspected it to be the brakes. i just had them changed not too long ago :duh:

i'll pop it down to the local garage later on (if they can fit me in) and see what they have to say about it.

UPDATE: ok, i had the car on the ramp at my local garage and first thing we saw was a large stone that was trapped in between a joint of some sort (not sure on what). took the stone out and so far it seems better (touch wood :winky: ).

HOWEVER, i was looking at my front right caliper, whilst the wheel was off, and the black caliper paint (been on for 2 months max) has been scored away, in a line, along the length of the caliper. it looks as if the caliper has caught the spoke of the wheel at some point and worn the paint away :o is this likely??? and what could be the cause???

no, work in a chemistry lab though

i don't think a stone was caught in between the caliper and the spoke - it just doesn't look like that kind of marking.

additionally, all the brakes seem to be grinding/squealing. i have noticed this squealing since i had the pads and discs changed, but this is now accompanied with a dull grating kind of noise! really doing my head in :tsktsk:
