Throttle Body Cleaning

Hi all,

Was in the local motor factors yesterday and came accross a can of "carb & throttle body" cleaner........

Just wondering is it a good thing to do and what do people recommend?

Basically this product is a foam spray that is supposed to disolve any deposits......spray in in and leave for no. of minutes etc.....

Should i consider a product like this?

Would there be a danger of it just dislodging stuff that will then move on into the engine?

Would i be better off removing the whole thing and cleaning it some old fashioned way?

thanks

:)

hello Noel,

I have used a throttle body cleaning product before to do a friends throttle bodies on his 92' Honda Del Sol, Worked wonders.

Alot of excess smoke was being pushed out the exhausts before we cleaned it, Looked a real mess when it was on idle... Brought it over and it took about 15minuites to clean it out... Heres how i done it.

1, Removed the airfilter and pipes to show the bare throttle body intake.

2, Sprayed a bit of cleaner around the intake and over the butterfly valve inside the throttle body

3, Opened the valve(by pushing the throttle obivously  (oh yes i dont want to make anyone sound stupid but make sure the car is off when ya doing this)) and sprayed a bit more cleaner in and around the intake.

4, i opened and closed the valve a few times before starting it up without the airfilter on, The car will struggle a bit to start(this is normal) once it is started spray a bit more cleaner in then turn off and replace the airfilter and pipes

5, turn on and let it run. It may kick out alot of smoke, this is just all the crap being pushed out. give it about 5 minuites untill all the smoke has been released.

6, take for a test run to make sure its ok, Throttle response should be better.

7, enjoy.

I havent tried the foam product, but it should work the same. just work to the instructions i suppose.

Nothing too big should really be in there that wont disolve.

Would i be better off removing the whole thing and cleaning it some old fashioned way?

Could do, if you have the time :D
