New cars 2001>

CO2 Emission | Band | 12 months duty

********************************

<100 g/km | A | - £0 (down £65)

<120 g/km | B | - £40 (down £35)

<150 g/km | C | - £100 (down £5)

<165 g/km | D | - £125 (no change)

<185 g/km | E | - £150 (no change)

<225 g/km | F | - £185 (up £25)

>225 g/km | G | - £210 (new band)

For Diesel Cars:

CO2 Emission | Band | 12 months duty

********************************

<100 g/km | A | - £0 (down £75)

<120 g/km | B | - £50 (down £35)

<150 g/km | C | - £110 (down £5)

<165 g/km | D | - £135 (no change)

<185 g/km | E | - £160 (no change)

<225 g/km | F | - £195 (up £25)

>225 g/km | G | - £210 (new band)

Older cars pre 2001

Lower Band Cars <1549cc = no change = £110

Higher Band Cars >1549cc = plus £5 = £175

However, dig a little deeper...

The IS200 has 231 and so falls into the higher band (thank goodness mine is a 2000 ;) ) and so does the new IS250!

So much for the 'top 1%' more like 10%!!!!

the RX300 is 311 g/km

but since the prius is 104 g/km, i dont see anything that fits in the 'free' section!

According to the Lexus web site the Automatic IS250 Co2 figure is 214 not 231 as the manual is. Glad I have the auto as its better on fuel consumption as well.

So Gordon is trying to be environmentally friendly?? What a complete moron - China is building 600 coal fired powerstations in next few years so even if all of UK drove small "clean" cars it wouldn't make the slightest dent on the CO2 coming from China.

Overall a typical Labour budget - you have car, house, pension, job and want to get on in life you are screwed. ....

its to encourage people to drive more economical and cleaner cars

which in turn will encourage manufacturers to produce lower immision cars and more economical engines

which in turn will help preserve the worlds resources

which cant be a bad thing !

i hate to be the one who settles for a case of "but they are doing it so why cant i" but i get fed up of our government penalising us to try and make a better world when the americans get to drive 7 litre cars all day etc.

I wanna be driving what i wanna drive, and not having to be responsible as nobody else does?

Its like the egg advert, for every smart thing that happens a dumb thing happens else where.

Except its a case of for every smart car sold, hundreds and thousands of other cars are sold!

how nice of them to screw us a little more, add to that i have a 4x4 as well to realy rub in the new 4x4 tax!!!!

what 4x4 tax ?

The one where having a 4x4 means that you fit into the worst catagory for emisions............ :shutit:

Apart from duel fuel jobs, nearly all 4x4 trucks etc instantly fall into the highest catagory

the americans have better resources than us

they also have been hot on immisions far longer than the uk, along with higher standards

and they were using unleaded years before the uk were

perhaps if the uk goverment had woken up a bit earlier there wouldnt be such an outcry now

No offence but if the government is trying to hide behind that as an excuse then again, I think its b :tsktsk: x!

Scrap Diesels then for a start. Sort out the shambles of a dated train system, make public transport in general more economical and more reliable. Its utter garbage!

to be honest the public transport, certainly in london has improved considerably over the last few years, as for our train system, its the best in the world !!, anyone can run a few lines from major towns, but we have a system which covers a huge amount of the country, the trains have also improved considerably

immissions and economical methods apply to public transport as well

im not canvassing for the goverment ....honest

having 6 vehicles to tax is not easy, but you gotta face the facts :D

It's got better but is overloaded.

Bloke on telly tonight pointed out that is you want to go cross country by train you can't, and he is right.

For me to get to work by train (30+ miles cross country) I have to go into London and back out again, stand on a packed train, 2 changes and 2 hours against 40mins in the car. Cost of car @ 40p/mile about £25, peak travel card to London £20 + return from London to work £10 =£30, no brainer that one.

Why the government has chosen the pre 2001 aswell! Instead of confusing people, why didn't they just do it from the next registration date instead of back dating it? :duh:

Barrie - i spend a lot of time using public transport in other european countries...

and for you to suggest that british trains are anywhere close to French or German standards, well, its laughable!

For a direct comparison, british trains are overpriced... From my town to London - the cheapest i could possibly get is in the order of 40 quid - thats for just over an hour - if i had the audasity to turn up on the day, it would be 90 quid return (and it has been)

Germany has a wonderfully efficient train system, with very informative signs, easy to understand processes, and clean reliable trains, all for a fraction of what similar journies cost over here.

The french, well it isnt as clean, but runs on time when they dont strike, and again, is much cheaper than here...

im sorry, anyone that says we have the best public transport system in the world, hasn't left these shores and, i would suspect, has had tony visiting them every night whispering these lies into their ears while they sleep...
