urgh...

ive never gotten on with linux...

and im having some probs with RH9 console

so, i know we have a few techies, so if you can help - it would be most appreciated...

ive tried mounting my CD drive -

i did a dmesg /more

followed by

#mount /dev/hdc -t iso9660 -r /cdrom

which was my understanding to how to mount a cd - except i get the error:

"mount point /cdrom does not exist"

now, i cannot find the /cdrom directory at root, which is what i think the issue is.... but, i have no idea how to resolve this...

so, any help and guidence would be most appreciated...

oh, and if anyone has a pointer to a good online tutorial/guide to RH linux, that would be handy!

i'm thinking the issue might be because the CD has a windows File system...

although i did a mkdir for /cdrom in root, but now get special device /dev/hdc/ does not exist...

from the dmesg i have

hdc: teac cd-552e .... etc...

im baffled..

i've just built a new pc for myself and was gonna go the linux route, but instead of full on debian etc, i'm running ubuntu as an operating system! its really really good and requires only limited linux knowledge (its like windows but fully customizable basically). i knwo it doesn't answer ur question, but if in future u wanna change...ubuntu's the way to go IMO :D

Go with Solaris guys! <evil evil evil>

-bash-3.00$ uname -a

SunOS mapper 5.8 Generic_108528-03 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-5_10

-bash-3.00$

or perhaps one of several flavours of debian?

cueca:~> uname -a

Linux cueca 2.4.29 #1 Mon Jan 24 10:48:55 GMT 2005 i686 unknown

caro:~> uname -a

Linux caro 2.4.18 #9 Fri Jan 24 23:41:31 GMT 2003 i686 unknown

I know they're older kernel versions, but they work for what I need them to do (cueca specifically needs to be an exact version for certain software running on it).

of course 'uname -a' doesn't work on Cisco kit... ;)

Linux BigBuggerGB 2.6.15-1.1833_FC4smp #1 SMP Wed Mar 1 23:55:52 EST 2006 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

:P

Figgits old boy..... your cdrom mount point is probably in /mnt or /media (depending on your distro, so it would have been something like..

mount /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom (or similar :) )

sometimes it also sleeps in /media/cdrecorder ;)
