@

On a spare pc at work that I am just trying to get going having reloaded XP PRO, the @ does not work.

So when you shift and press ' all you get is ' the shift works, because when you press shift / you get ?

Swapped keyboards and same thing.

As we all know life without an @ as tough these days.

If anyone has a spare @ they do not use I have cash waiting.

Seriously though, anyone got any ideas to try.

Sounds like the wrong keyboard driver, is the keyboard PS2?

Try "Control Panel" - "Keyboard" and look for a different driver

Yup, same as this, I know US and UK keyboards have different layouts.

If need the @ sign quickly you could always run charmap and copy it from there.

Try checking the control panel for all the regional and language options settings (especially under Languages tab -> Details -> the Default input language).

What do you get if you hold shift and press the number 2 key?

Your system is in US keyboard mode (generally, the default when installing Windows operating systems).

IIRC, shift and the ' key should actually give you double quotes.

But anyway, to fix, do as I mentioned before - hunt for any mention of US and change it all to UK!

Should do the trick.
