Hello All, Im now a proud ower of a green is200 se, very pleased with it.

So after having it a week i done a couple of silly mods to it but decided to take it into the lexus dealer to get it all checked over & to have the brake replaced on the front as there very low.

After 2 hours the car came back & they presented me with a very pricey list on things to be done.

But one of them im not sure what they mean - it say (Front Strut Bars Split) £206.36 for the part & 3.00 on time £577.34??? I phoned them & said what do you mean by front strut bars? they said something to do with the shocks meatting the body, something they cant by in on its own so you have to replace the whole thing & thats on both side?

Can anyone tell me what there going on about, anyone had this before?

Ohh & also when i got home i looked over my car because they said the fog light needs replacing & found they have knocked & strached! the bumper! Great!!!

Cheers

Hey there...

Welcome to the club. Im no expert.. but im sure someone will come shortly to help.

I know wat a Strut Bar is ... but it is usually referred as the (Aftermarket) reinforcement bar that is placed inbetween the struts (top) to reinforce the body to prevent twisting under hard cornering. It is not installed from the factory (not in our cars anyway). I havent seen one "split" for that matter either.

And btw, it takes around 1 hr (some ppl say less) to remove the suspension and reinstall it, so 3 hrs seems harsh.

As for "shocks meeting the body", where it meets is at the upper mounts. There is a piece of plastic-y material that pads between the upper mount and the chassis. Now that piece can split or crack .... .but I seriously doubt that would cost 200GBP.

Maybe i just dunno what Im talkin about ... in anycase, some one will come and shed some light.

Bernard
