Yes i have a similar noise when the car is cold, kinda like a turbine noise slowing down...........I usually drive the car very easy until it has warmed up and hear this noise every day.........

Anybody know what it could be.............?

i have the same problem, I have found it too be my dif. On closer inspection i needed to replace the seals because they had worn away and top it up with oil, It still whin's now and again when i let off the throttle at high speeds but its only noticable when you listen out for it.

were the seals easy to replace?

and i guess there is a plug that i take out to check oil and if not up to level fill through same hole?

Any help Cheers

So there is no one technical here then :duh:

bumpety bump..

I have a whining / whirring noise. It comes on about 40mph+. I think it's the diff. However if I turn to the left about 1/4 - 1/2 a lock then it goes quiet. So this made my dad think it's a bearing (I hope not) I don't think its steering related cos it sound like it's coming from the rear, another edge towards it beeing the diff then..

Anyhow, any quick guide / tips on how to check the diff oil and what oil to use would be great?

Incase anyone comes accross this and wants to know the same thing:

After plenty of searching I found this post http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...ic=8861&hl=

which has which diff oil to use and a quick how-to change the differential oil.

did this noise turn out to be the diff then? Mine makes the same sort of noise...I was pretty sure it was coming from the right front wheel, was thinking wheel bearing myself.

So does any one Know What causes Diff Whine

there must be someone that knows

come on all you so called experts

I would assume it's caused by low or inadequate oil, not lubricating the internal parts, thus causing friction. Just like an engine ran without oil soon starts to scream.

Changing/checking the diff oil is pretty simple, if you have a Sport model I'd be sure to use the correct LSD oil.

The diagram below shows the drain and refill plugs.

Also don't forget that a whining whilst turning can be caused by low power steering fluid.
