Hi all

I keep on getting a high risk box from nortons telling me i have a trojan and it has deleted it but everytime you press ok another one appears over and over again

The trojan is called Trojan.byteverify

I've been on google and tried what they seem to suggest by disabling the system restore and using a trojan remover do a full scan then restore the system but its still there

can anyone help if so can you explain it in thick mans terms so its easy to follow

Cheers

If i was in your shoes this is the course of action i would take...

Step 1,

Goto Start>Run

Step 2,

Now type msconfig

Step3,

The System Configuration Utility Window will now load. Click the Circle which has: Diagnostic Startup - Load basic devices and services only, And Click Apply and then Ok

Step 4,

The system will now ask to reboot.

Here is what we have done so far:

We have told the system to only start up using basic devices and services only, This will mean that the Trojan file is not loaded at start up. Which in turns means that it cannot open and stop you from erasing it through your anti-virus.

Step 5,

Once the system has rebooted you should notice that the layout(if you are running XP) has not turned back to the classic view. Dont fear this is the system not loading some of the services. Now run your anti-virus and do a sweep, It should locate the file and wipe it from your hard drive.

Step 6,

Now you are Trojan free.

:) Any problems? Feel free to reply and il give you another route to take.

Cheers,

Sam

According to symantec....you might be getting alerts and not actually have the trojan...

In case you haven't seen this .....Trojan removal

BTW... Nortons is getting worse and worse, more buggy every time they "improve it".......for instance

My PC at work...when i first boot up, Nortons is disabled, I have instructed it to enable on startup...but NO, went on to the symantec site and eventually found what the bug was and the only way to fix it was to re-install Nortons....

My PC at home, brand new computer came with 3 months free nortons trial.... I have Nortons auto update turned on....but everyday i get a message box telling me that my PC is not up to date and do i want to check for updates...so i click ok...and it checks for a full 3 secs and then " happily tells me that it has finished updating my computer.......even though it was already up to date

Chuck it out one of these days :tsktsk:

Norton isnt the best anti virus TBH. turn off the system restore

PROGRAMMES > ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS>SYSTEM RESTORE> SYSTEM RESTORE SETTINGS tick the box to turn off resore

then go to http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner ( you need to have internet explorer) click on the virus scan and then go watch the tv for a while - it will tell u if u really have any nasties on your machine
