Well, after months of research and a close contest with BMW 520D, I have placed my order for an IS 220D SE with MM in mesa red with black interior. Delivery date is 12th april (when my current lease expires) so a long wait for me.

Congrats - same colour and spec as mine (incl Black leather)...what made you decide against the beemer?

Lucky boy....

They still haven't told me when I get mine...mid March...ish!

Good choice and welcome to the Lexus diesel club!

What swung it for you over the beemer ?

I have to say that i was very close to ordering the 520D with M sports styling and a few extras like satnav. I don't really need a big car but the 520D+M just looks awesome and what surprised me was how much torque/acceleration it had for a 2.0D engine. It did have a couple of thousand miles on the clock versus the 200 mile lexus I drove but it definatly felt like the quicker car. The things against the 520d was lack of extras eg no leather seats, no keyless entry, average sat nav, average stereo etc. Although i thought the 520D drove slightly better, the feeling sitting inside the lexus doing lots of motorway miles was much better and once i got the hang of the sat nav, dvd player and reversing camera - I was sold.

I think the MultiMedia package is probably responsible for closing a lot of sales.

People are sold on gadgets and gizmos on all things. Lexus definitely has one up in those stakes over their competition. BMW, Mercedes etc all that comes at a cost. As far as stock specs, lexus wins hands down especially with the is250 at the moment.

Was the engine quite noisy?

reviews said that it aint the quietest of diesel engines.

Only noisy outside the car, when it's cold and if you rev it hard, which is pointless anyway as there aint anything else over 4000 rpm.

On the motorway at sixth gear cruising speeds (see my other posts about sixth gear) it's deathly quiet, just a slight rumble of tyres. Oh, and no rattles whatsoever, not even a slight creak or squeak.
