My car is due for a 40K/Year service even though it has 37K on the clock.

Cheapest qoute so far is £420. I noticed from my last bill that I was charged £56.00 for oil and some ridiculous amount for screen wash.

Can I provide my own oil (e.g. Castrol) and screen wash from Halfords and ask dealer to use that?

What does the 40K service involved?

Is £420 justified?

You can supply your own oil. Or you can even do what Mr Morse suggested and get a local garage to change the oil for a fraction of the price, and get Lexus to do the rest.

I've seen this said before and wondered if a Lexus dealer would be willing to stamp the service book even though they hadn't supplied the oil themselves.

If the car is still under warranty I'd have thought it even less likely as they will have no idea what oil had been used so how could they stamp the service book as having done the service when they only did some and not all of it?

I would imagine trying to make a warranty claim for an engine fault that may be oil related would be interesting to say the least!

I hear what your saying, and that could well be right.

But don't the guidelines say that, as long as genuine and recommended parts (certain oils) are used by any independent garage. Then the warranty is still valid - I'm pretty sure on this.

Mmmmmm, when I was at Edgware Road Lex the other week I asked about the 40K service (mine has only done 27k but is due the 4 yearly) and was quoted £367! Might be worth giving them a ring?

Lippy,

Interesting dialogue since I've got a 40K service coming up early in the new year. Haven't asked our local dealer (Aberdeen) how much yet, but I'm not holding my breath for a cheap deal.

What is this Lexus Direct Booking Direct, you mentioned? How do you access this?

Cheers,

Yep spot on, garage must be vat reg, and must use lexus/toyota parts, and your warranty will be ok :D

I'll be needing a 40K service in the New Year. Lexus Aberdeen have just quoted me approx £270 all up if I'm a Gold Member, so I've just signed up to Gold. This sounds like a good deal, compared with other quotes on this thread. :)

So full marks to Lexus Aberdeen. I've used them several times before (when I didn''t know about the LOC and Gold discounts :duh: ) and always had good service. :)

IanB :D
