Hi All,

Just curious as to whether or not it is possible to find a "tap point" in the system to take the NMEA-0183 data from the GPS receiver on the IS and RX models, and if so where would be the most readily accessible tap-point. I ask this because as a licensed amateur radio operator, I have APRS (Automatic Position Reporting System) installed using a Kenwood TM-D700 VHF/UHF mobile tranceiver. I currently receive the GPS data from a handheld Garmin eTrex in a small cradle on the dashboard of the IS200.

There is a risk that this arrangement will not work that well in the RX400h because of the rain detector mesh and heated windscreen elements which, from what I have been told, have a tendency to sheild out the GPS satellite signals.

It would be useful if I could find a tap-point in the vehicle's own GPS receiver which I can then feed into the Kenwood for APRS. (Only needs to receive the NMEA serial data, doesn't need 2-way communication).

Alternatively, if Tracker Horizon is installed, is it possible to get an NMEA feed off its GPS receiver?

Thanks in advance,

Leland

Can't help as such. I have a 300 and have a GPS aerial for a Gatso device on the dashboard. That works fine. I have also played with a TomTom in the car - also works fine so there doesn't seem to be any signal blocking in a 300.

I have aGarmin Quest which I occasionally use on my 400H. I have no probs with screening but have to turn one off when the SatNav and Quest and my wife tell me to go 3 opposite directions!

I've come up with a solution... I picked up a bunch of OEM Garmin GPS18 active antennas/engines and built a small interface which connects it directly into the Kenwood. The receiver & antenna unit is small enough that I can mount it on the head-unit bracket for the Kenwood.

:offtopic: I bet you could come up with way to integrate the SBS-1 and get the radar on the satnav screen :winky: [Apolgies to those who have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about!]

HAHAHAHAHAHA... you found me out! (I do have a way to display BaseStation on the screens in the I.C.E. for the rear seat passengers though... the laptop has a composite video out which can be plugged into the video in for the system :hehe: )

What I am waiting for is an analogue/diigital TV tuner that I can use when I am parked while my wife goes shopping!

I dont have rear screens on my 400h.
