Heated Front Screen

hi guys,

just had my front windscreen replaced earlier today (got a stone chip the other day that lead to a 12 inch crack :tsktsk: ) and wondered if anybody knew of a way to check that the heating element in the new screen is in good working order???

the wire from screen to plug are connected but that doesn't neccesseraly mean its working. just wanna check they ain't fitted a dudd'en.

Turn it on for a minute or two and feel the screen where the element is - should be warm.

I got my windscreen replaced a few weeks ago (again a stone chip, 6 inch crack) and haven't checked it's working because I didn't know you could turn it on and off.

You can't turn it on and off as such.....it comes on automatically when you start the car up.

@ colinbarber, i'll give that a try in the morning. thought that'd probably be the answer but wasn't sure if it would actually work.

i thought the element in the front screen came on with the rearscreen\mirrors

the mirrors are on all the time and I presume the front screen is as well.

all depends what age of vehicle you have. If your rear demister button also has a picture of a mirror then they are both turned on together. Early models have the mirrors on all the time.

On the early models I don't know if the front screen is on all the time like the mirrors or, as I expect, it comes on with the rear heater.

Does a 1999 IS200 (SE) have a heated front screen? I was aware of the mirrors but didnt think the front scren was heated.

yes ALL years have a heated front screen but it is only where the wipers sit in the parked position - it is not like the fords

mmmm....like you say i used to have a ford which had two very fine visible heater elements over the entire screen!

Im finding new toys every day!
