Pre-cats?

followin on from the very popular de-restriction discussion :P .....

wondering about the different options available for the pre-cat. Any ideas as to what options/upgrades are available? Any impact of removing it? ... any impact to the O2 sensor? ...

There's no impact on the O2 sensors, they are before the pre cats and after the main cat.

Impact of removing it - your emmisions will be high until the main cat gets up to temperature which can take a while. Not a problem in the UK as the vehicle will still pass our MOT test provided the tester lets things get nice and hot.

I take it a manifold replacement is needed to do this then. Its not just a case of removing the cats?

What sort of increase can be expected?

If you do a search you will find many threads about this.

Removing the pre cats only won't really give you much of an increase because there are also other restrictions. Also change the exhaust and intake and remap the fuel and you will benefit.

Are the preats the two things on the exhaust manifold and the main cat is it in the centre section just after the manifold?

u know .. if someone can put a piccy .. that would be excellent ... a picture paints a thousand words u know .. hehe

So ... if i understand this correctly, for a good setup, I'll need to remove the precats (put in place a straight thru pipe - i guess someone makes those?)... and then also to upgrade to better polished headers or something?

Then to top it all off, to put on a S-AFC or Power FC piggy back to remap?

If the above is correct, which manufacturers make good pre-cat replacements? I'm using high flo filter ... wanna stay away from CAI... so not sure if that would benefit. I'm putting on a Fuji (FGK) Legalis R exhaust on in a couple of weeks.

Any local reputable exhaust center, or somewhere like a powerflow dealer will be able to do this, thats what i'm planning on doing in the near future.
