Auto Gearbox

 Share

Recommended Posts

After dropping off my car at the dealer I picked up the courtesy car and it had an auto gearbox and now I want one ! - perhaps I am getting old :crying: but it was so nice just to put it in gear and off you go.

Now considering selling the IS200 Sport - anyone want one ? :)

Have always avoided auto gearboxes since driving but perhaps now I have seen the light, driving was so much easier

I have an IS200 SE auto. It's the first auto I have ever owned and it's great.

My wife's been a bit spoiled by it. It's the first auto car she could ever remember travelling in and when my brother purchased a Ford Focus auto she couldn't understand why she could feel it changing gear! It's hard to tell which gear the Lexus is an as the gear change is so smooth. She said "Why bother having an automatic if you can feel it change gear?"

Does anyone know if Lexus plan to make it a 5 speed auto in the IS200 in future like the IS300?

Regards,

Neil.

the IS auto box is nasty lookin. spoils the inside of the car in my oppinion as when i ordered my car it was supposed to be black, cream interior and manual but factory mixed it up and made it in auto. went to c it and did not like it at all.

love merc auto boxes with tiptronic and thats the only auto box i'd have might go for a new CLK convertible with it in 2 years

Had a drive of the IS200 Auto at one of Lexus Open Days and I was dissapointed as it was always in the wrong gear. Its because its only a four speed auto, however they are planning to intruduce a five speed sometime..It was totaly different driving the IS300, fealt very good, but at £27K

Same feeling, after 2 years driving the very funny 6 manual gear box, i was a bit sad looking at the auto box on the Sportcross, now I didn't want to turn back to manual, so easy in the buzy traffic jam of paris, and when some turns are coming, just switching to E shift modechanging on the steering wheel:o)

Great

The autobox on the IS300 is very, very nice indeed.

The steering wheel controls are cool - but I object to paying extra money for a toy I would never use (other than once when I got it - and then to show off to people in the car).

I was quite impressed with the 200 box as well - was quite nice too.

I just alsways think auto boxes are in too high a gear - my normal motorway cruising speed, around 85 is just around / over 3500 revs in sixth. This is nice and refined, and I don't have to have the stereo balring to hear the radio / CD.

Much higher revs in fifth on the autobox - therefore much louder - not as comfortable

Matthew, comparing both, 6 manual is probably the best manual gears box I know, now in term of sound, the 3L is very very quiet, much more than the 2L, it's a 5 speed one (200 comes with a 4 one)

For showing off the buttons :yahoo: , not at all, you will just use it alone on twisted road :D
