Kerb Incident

Hi Guys,

About a week ago I had an "incident" with the kerb. I was turning into a small side street and going round the corner and and for some unexplained reason I pushed the accelerator instead of the brake. NO IDEA WHY! The car went wide and I badly kerbed by drivers side wheel and the bottom of my bumper.

I have contacted a local Smart Repair type place and they have said they will repair the bumper for £80 + Vat,

Seems expensive to me, but they can do it on Friday and it will be sorted out before TRAX! :D

My car has a TRD front lip on which luckily was NOT on the car at the time so when the lip goes on it should cover most of it I hope!

The bodyshops I have been to have said 2 -3 weeks waiting time and I have to get the whole bumper resprayed. I do want the problem sorted before TRAX. The kerbed wheel I am not so fussed about because I can swap it with the spare.

Any suggestions? Apart from "its a good idea to brake when cornering rather then accelerate" :P

Is that a good price?

Thanks,

Anees :D

:crybaby: sorry to see that mate, yea that price seems ok ..............is there no way they can fit your TRD lip as that would cover it up and then the £80 can pay for that to get fitted :winky: ask them you never know :whistling:

Thanks guys. :D

Luckily the TRD Lip was taken off earlier the same day that happened. As Gord said its being repainted along with my side skirts. ;)

Supposed to ring the SMART repair place tommorow to get it booked in to be done for Friday.

Its a race against time to get the Lip back from the bodyshop and on the car before TRAX. Don't want to be the one who's car looks like a wreck! LOL :D

From what I can gather the lip SHOULD cover most of it apart from the uppermost damage.

:offtopic: My Car PC power supply is not back either (returned it due to a fault) so I don't know if it will be ready by sunday!

The wheel is not as urgent, I have a new 18" Toora alloy in the boot so I can swap that out and get it refurbed later. :D

I've got a very similar bit of damage to my front bumper, but not sure whether to use someone like Chipsaway, or just pay extra and get it resprayed :shutit:

Could you post some pics after its done to see how good it looks? :winky:

no sugestions on body work but with that much damage to the wheel

you would need to check out alighnment sooner rather than later

as the tyre wear will cost more than the 80 quid your looking at paying

for it to look nice

Hi mate,

I didn't actually hit the kerb. I just scraped against it. My car had a full geometry check a few months back so I'm sure it will be fine. If I had actually hit the kerb then I would be worried. My Wheel balancing also seems fine with no vibrations. :D

Trying to get the bodyshop to hurry up with my sideskirts and front lip so that I can get them put back on before TRAX. :duh:

The lip and sideskirts were taken off due to a few issues with the paint.

Bro the lexus handles really well, even with the geom slighty out, you only realise it when you see your front tyres inners have gone bold

Hmm.....

I'll keep a close eye out for uneven tyre wear. :shifty: Car has had three geometry checks in about 6 months (only 1 paid for! :shifty: ) so I'm sure I'll be right. Really benefiting from it as I have great even wear all around. If the front tyre inners start to wear out I'll have it booked in again. Should be on coilovers by then hopefully so I'd need another geometry check anyway. :whistling:

I've decided I ain't going to bother with gettng the smart repair. I'll bring two nice green plants with me to TRAX and put one at either side of the car to cover up the damage if my front lip isn't done in time. I'll call it "staging" :P :P
