Any advice on best buy and ease of use for around £150

Though I would suggest a 35mm SLR, you won't get one for that budget.

For best "bang for buck" get the Casio Exilm EX-S100 or it's alternative, but stick to Exilm ...............

I got a 6 megapixel Fuji camera from Asda for just a smidge over £150 a few months back, and came with 50 free prints too.

canon ixus 50 - latest model, or ixus 40 & the fuji finepix gets higly rated by Which magazine.

we bought an olympus mju mini for a pressie recently - very impressed with it & i just HAD to have a play before we gave it!! (i think jessops have got it on special offer @ £130 at min)
