Dashboard Light Problems

Recommended Posts

94 LS400 has intermittent flickering of speedo/tach needles

upon engaging the starter, then nothing. Flickering continues after start-up and then 5 to 10 to 20 minutes later

needles light and the floresent system backlighing the gauges turn on. does the system have a starter like a floresent lighting system? The problem seens to have grown to include the backlights of the HVAC display. When it finally lights it remains lite with no further problem until the next start-up at which time the above mentioned cycle repeats itself.....HELP

Thanks

The needles are normal to burn out.. it was a design flaw that Lexus designed on these.

Not sure about the lighting behind the dash, but my suggestion to stop your needles burning out altogether is to keep your dash lighting as low as possible. This preserves the neon needles..

Apparently replacement needles are expensive unless you can find a Scapped LS.

Actually this is a very common problem for the 93/94 LS400. The problem is in the high voltage power supply on the "power source" circuit boards. Several components have aged to a point that they were so far out of tolerence that it has damaged an integrated circuit on those boards. I have been repairing these circuit boards for members of this and other forums for quite some time now. If you would like to contact me regarding this problem you can either post a reply here or contact me directly at jwalker@cwia.com
