Trouble Removing Glued Down Carpet

Am currently renovating an old shop to use as a gallery, and thought I'd whip up the old carpet before I get Amtico installed.

Unfortunately it has been glued onto the concrete floor, and just won't budge :tsktsk:

Any ideas how to remove it, or could the Amtico installers lay plywood or something on top of it?

But aren't you going to throw the carpet away anyway ?

Ooh yeah, it just I've ripped off the only bits that weren't glued down

Now there is nothing left to get a grip on. Wondered if there was some nasty solvent that would dissolve the adhesive?

It's well soaked into the concrete floor beneath y'see.

like bazza says.. you need a spade..

used to be in the industry.. there is nothing but brute force and a flat edged spade.

We always used to a work colleague to wind us up then we lose our rag with the carpet.. soon got it up off the floor

Tried the local carpet shop, but it was staffed by a teengage monkey who 'hadn't ever heard of carpet being glued down' :eerrrmm:

So that's why I asked here!

And a spade sounds like just the job - wouldn't have crossed my mind at all - cheers fellas :)
