A/c Squeels When I Start Car

Recommended Posts

i have a 1999 rx300. when i first turn on the car and the a/c is on, the car makes a horrible squeeling noise. if i turn the a/c off then it stops. after driving about a mile, i can turn the a/c back on without the noise. does anyone know what this is and what i need to do about it? thanks, mike

Check the compressor drive belt tension - it's probably slipping.

I don't have an rx but I guess the same belt also drives the alternator which will be under heavy(ish) load after a cold start. The combined load will make it slip.
