Email Virus!

I just got an email, to my "sales" account @ metserve.com

Dear user sales,

You have successfully updated the password of your Metserve account.

If you did not authorize this change or if you need assistance with your account, please contact Metserve customer service at: 'service'@'metserve'.'com'

The email contains an attachment "password-change.zip"

Well considering, I own metserve.com, and the above is total bo**ox, the email contains a virus (I have not opened it yet)

So be ware ............... just in case anyone else gets anything like it !

Just a note, that this email also comes with a variety of attachments, many ending with .HTM

examples:-

warning.htm

password.htm

administrator.htm

thank-you.htm

Even I am having difficulty blocking this from my company Spam filter as i'm in charge of our Exchange Servers.

For all others you may try a filter and block on body content containing "+++".

We get this kind of thing many times a day.

The email appears to come from a department in our company.

The file is always a zipped file.

We have a rule not to open any attachments unless the person they are from is known to us and they have included text in the body that more or les proves its from the person we know.

Along with about 50 a day for viagra, some african that has $500m to move, and the famous lucky day lottery, its a right pain in the @rse, if I ever get hold of a spammer then i'LL *********************************

I do not know if its because we are very hoighly ranked on google that we get so many or if the spammers just get hold of a big list of email addresses.

If you have your own website, you may be interested in http://www.projecthoneypot.org/, they hide machine-only-readable links in your page. Anyone automatically harvesting e-mails from your site will hit that page and get tracked.
