Front Fogs & Mot

Hi Guys,

My front fogs dont work at the moment. The seals have gone. Im due for an MOT next week. Will it fail due the fog lights?

Cheers for the info....my mate tried to tell me that they dont look at the fogs....i didnt believe him!

Think i got quoted 400 quid from Lexus to buy/fit new ones.

Front fogs are classed as an accessory and DO NOT have to work for M.O.T purposes.

Not as far as I understand it......if fog lights are fitted they have to be the correct colour and have to work.

Are any of the lawmen around to clarify this?

According to Kwik-Fit I get the impression only rear fog lights are important for an MOT test. There is no mention of front fogs. This link kind of says this again.

I stand corrected. This is what the MOT says about fog lights:

Rear Fog lamps

must be fitted to the centre or offside of the vehicle

tell-tale must work

must not be affected by other lamps and not be obscured

must be red.

i.e. Front fogs are not listed as something that is tested.

Front fog lights are not tested on mot, because not all cars have front fogs

Fitted or not it does not matter if they don't work

Front fogs are not part of the m.o.t test so you will be ok ...

I have taken some advice from VOSA on this matter

If you have front fogs and they are CONNECTED they must work for an MOT

If they do not work DISCONNECT them and they will pass.

The guy at the MOT place said hed pass it anyway as i got my 4 tyres from him....

I've just had my IS200 MOT tested this morning at an independent place and the chap did not turn on the front fogs or test them in any way.

"THATS PANTS!!!!" for the MOT you need "side/dip / main and in the UK a osr "red" fog light....Think about it why! do we have "front" main beam.
