Sports And Prestige Induction Kit

Recommended Posts

it wouldn't matter on a stock engine, it is more for aesthetics and accoustics than any significant power gain, it's a bit pointless buying a freeflowing filter/induction kit with the hope of increasing performance with a stock head. I would get one just for the induction roar, but it uglyfies the engine a bit too much.

OK, I drive an IS3, but are you trying to tell me that K&N are telling porkies with their claim of 8.5bhp with the Typhoon on the IS3?

It looks and sounds the Mutt's and is my beast engine mod so far....

i agree, induction roar is a wonderful thing, but do you really believe the OEM induction system is so badly designed, it is costing 8.5bhp, a lot of aftermarket manufacturers do carry out back to back tests, but almost always compare their brand new kit to the standard kit which usually has a very very 'used' OEM filter, the only way to back up K&N's claims is a dyno, even on a dyno the results are not as they would seem, as a lot of OEM systems utilise a degree of ram-air effect. but for an accurate test, the existing induction system has to be as new. but i am always willing to be proved wrong, so if anyone is thinking of an induction change, and have the time, money etc it would be interesting to see the before and after dyno reslts

I read it as if you have a very "used OEM" filter on before it will be restricting air flow hence the engine will be producing less than it should. Then as if by magic you put a nice clean filter in the power goes up thanks to a metal tube :D

yes neil that is what i mean, but don't be put off, feel the noize. :)

re-the s/c question, the airflow is increased, so airbox design becomes more of an issue, but how good is the stock system, compared to say the Trust, someone needs to fit a s/c with the standard airbox (make sure it's nice and clean, and no gunge coating the inside, fit a brand new standard filter) dynooooo it, then swap it for your new induction kit and compare, but does anyone really care, if it sounds good, and looks good, and makes you happy then it is good.

Just trying to help lexus boy in his confusion.

I DO feel the noize mate :driving:

no prob m8

i remember when i had my first motor, escort 1600, i stuck a twin webber and a pancake filter, sounded awesome when it was floored, sounded faster, but was still beaten by everything from the lights, and carb iced up in damp cold weather :whistling: (not public road traffic lights, special private land traffic lights because road-racing is naughty)

Twin choke Webber! now that takes me back. Had a mate with a 950 mini who always took the filter off as soon as he was out of earshot of his dad :D Those were the days.
