Can you help?

Our dyno guy want to convert our Rototest to wireless Bluetooth control from a lap top.

Although I understand that the advantages seem worthwhile, I am a bit reluctant to interfere with a machine we have just coughed up well over £100k for.

Are there any downsides to Bluetooth?

Thank you for your time :)

Mark, is the Bluetooth a supported option by Rototest or just something you're looking into doing yourselves?

If it's something you're just going to try doing what about looking into Wi-fi as that would be quicker, not sure what sort of bandwidth you'd need though for the Rototest stuff, if it's just basic stuff then Bluetooth may be enough?

I guess security is the biggest concern - what can be controlled from the laptop, or does it just read in the data as the machine is running?

Bluetooth itself is fine when I've used it, lots of devices support it now and it pretty much just works but sometimes it can be a pain to get going...

Its basically for the keyboard and mouse, so that we can control the dyno without getting tangled up with wires.

Oh right that should be simple mate, just buy a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and hook the reciever up to the computer and then you're sorted...

Not aware of any issues, just buy some new kit and you should be fine, that technology has been out for a while and has had time to settle down if you know what I mean...

That sounds great. Thank you very much :D. I was concerned about the control (or lack of) issue.

Appreciate your time and wisdom.

You should be fine mate, I have a wireless keyboard and mouse at home and they're just the same as the standard kit, just make sure you change the batteries at regular intervals and you should be fine :)

I thought you were meaning running some sort of remote access to a laptop via Bluetooth - keyboard and mouse is easy mate - Microsoft do one and Logitech probably do too...

I've got a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse .........

It's the Logitech MX900

It's a really good keybaord ...... and I use it to it's most potential, and even take it downstairs ..... whilst using my projector .... :whistling:

I would advice the Logitech one over the Microsoft one though .... the logitech one comes with rechargeable mouse batteries ... and the Bluetooth hub is the charging dock for it !

All in all ........ v good !

Thank you very much gentlemen for your sage advice :D

I think we are going to use our Bluetooth laptop for mapping and for dyno control, so it should be pretty cool B)

We ended up with the Sony Vio Bluetooth keyboard with touchpad mouse. Lovely piece of kit which folds up to cover the keyboard (stops dirt and spilt tea getting in). Well pleased :D

Thank you everone :)
