Is 200 Manual Or Auto?

 Share

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a IS200, but am undecided on manual or auto. People tell me, who own cars with 6 speed boxes, that there more hassle than they're worth, because you're constantly changing gears.

Any views?

I like the Manual, but hey, ive never had an automatic. Many peeps who have gone from a manual to an automatic have loved it and would argue it defines a luxury car.

Personally I say pooh to that and just think there getting old!! Lol :D

Getting old !

I've got old - and I love my auto's.

Apart from crawling in traffic I find I can get a more relaxed and comfy seat position because I have no clutch pedal to floor.

You really need to borrow an auto for a weekend and give it a good try before you buy.

i'll be getting a manual for sure.

only plan on using 3 of the gears.

1st...straight to 6th, and maybe reverse :D

i'll sell you my 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th gears if you want them

Hi ........... my previous car was an IS200 - and it was an auto.

I always prefer auto, as it's more smoother ... and i'm lazy ... especially living in London. - I certainly wouldn't go back to a manual car.

However

I had a courtesy IS200 once, and that was manual - I must say it was noticebly quicker - and a hell of a lot more "fun" ;)

I've had 45 plus cars in my lifetime, some Auto some Manual, some of the smaller engine auto's have had very poor performance, but the bigger more power engines, the auto's go very well.

The is200 as a well matched automatic gearbox to the characteristic of the engine, off from rest, its very quick ,and get the engine working hard and it pulls like a train.

An auto is so much more of a usable car around town ,and a real cruiser on the motorways, my own advice to you is get an auto and save all that hard work on your left leg :P :)

i hate it when i get an auto IS as a courtesy car from time to time, it feels really slow compared to the manual. i also love changing gears but to answer your question i think you'd be best to take both for a test drive and see which you prefer. i wouldnt say i am always changing gears because there are 6 on the IS. in fact in the bmw hire car i have at the moment i keep attempting to change from 5th to 6th when on the motorway, i miss not having 6 gears at the moment and cant wait to get my car back!

Manual transmission soaks up less power than auto and usually more gears on the manual version so easier to keep in the power band, so performance is generally better on a manual.

So depends on your driving style and where you do most of your driving. If its in town and motorway get an auto. If its open roads with lots of A roads get a manual much more fun. "You pays your money and takes your choice"
