Guys....

I've been looking at some of your polishing makeovers... I've done it myself last year and maintained some procedure since (clash, polish, wax)

No matter how much i do it, the orange peel just irritates me no end.

Have any of you done wet sanding? then buffer it back out?

I'm assuming all Lexus paints are std. 2 pack, basecoat then clear..

The bonnet is the only panel and rear quaters that have no orange peel... front wings, all 4 doors have it. Car has had no major bodywork since it rolled off production line.... apart from front drivers wing when bus ran into me but that has same effect as the rest of the annoying bits...

I thought the orange peel effect came from a rushed paint job? someone told me the only way to get rid of the orange peel effect was with UV light or someting (sure someone said something to that effect, sounds wierd and I don't understand but that's what I was told )

also, I didnt think the black had a clear coat and the others are water based from memory cuz it's more enviromentally friendly or some rubbish

tha black is *******!!! lol, i had mine resprayed in propper un environmentaly friendly spirit based 2 pack with several clear coats because i was so unhappy with the waterbased paint that comes on the car.

Be careful about wet sanding and be prepared to get the panel re-sprayed if you go that 0.0001 mm too far and see primer.

The "orange peel" is actually the thick stone-chip resistant paint along the bottom of the doors. Its a shame they couldn't do something for the bonnet.

Yep.

Thing is, i have noticed the same on every IS200 i've seen, so its not just my car!

After watching American Hotrod i'm wondering if the clear coat hasn't been cut down and polished correctly... I think i've watched too many of them lol

friend of a freind has same with his IS200 sport in dark blue colour... his is 2003... i think its just dodgy spraying from the factory :(

ah well...

2000grit wet&dry with compound in theory would flatten it though
