well following my crash i have had a full respray in Mercedes Obsiddion Schwartz (and very nice it is too)

But it threw up a few things that Lexus never told me!

It seems my car has had a bit of a history so to speak and also a previous black on black respray - but in Celulose single pack paint!

as well as a few badly undertaken repairs (thankfully professionaly fixed).

2 Pack paint should have been used as it is harder wearing, but celulose is a trademark of the unproffesional!

I had a full rac report by lexus that have cleared it of any repair work, and am realy not happy!!!

I also know that lexus nottingham delayed the delivery of my car due to a "minor scrape"!!!! and had it painted!

So if you have far far too many stone chips and the paint seems tooo soft then have it checked out asap!

Rant over!!

Intresting!!

I have been told that 2 pack paint is no longer allowed to be used, something about the process involed and the fumes that it gives off......b.loody EU

Because black is a solid colour (non mettalic) it is a cellulose paint,if you buy paint from a Lexus dealer (code 202,i think) they will only supply you black paint no lacquer.....nothing else!!........just black paint as it doesn't need lacquer

Is this why black seems to get chipped easier than the metallics/pearls then? What about other solid colors, or is it just black?

i dont understand why you assume that Celulose is the sign of an Unproffesional..........

i can tell you its a darn sight Harder to Spray and Finish a car in Celulose, than it is in 2 pack!!

always been a lover of 2 pack found it much harder and resistent to chipping ,but as pete said it is not used anymore due to the health risks, breath that stuff in and your in trouble as my father in law found out when he spent two weeks in a specialist hospital undergoing tests for the goverment to access the damage done to his lungs over the years he had been using it .nothing wrong with Celulose as long as it is used properly and as matt said its a lot harder to use than 2 pack

the paint is soft, wipes of almost straight away with thinners and after seeing how good the car now looks with 2 x mac 9 basecoat, 3 layers of the black and 2-3 layers of the clear coat i wont be going back!

Weird thing is that the black is the same solid colour black as most cars like merc etc. when we typed in my paint code into the machine it was the same mix as loads of others.

and not being rude but if its harder to spray and more difficult but with less resistance to the elements etc - then why use it?? just a question not a criticism!

according to the bodyshop they use "Lechler" paint systems, and they have a different spirit base to standard 2 pack that makes it legal. and that a total ban on 2 pack isnt until late 2006. think its more based on emissions from the booth more than anything they said.

As for wet on wet, all i know is they did all repairs, gave it a coat of Mac 9 (seals, and is super sticky so paint wont peel off) then primered up and painted. If by wet on wet you mean they waited for the paint to flash off between coats then im sure they did.

If ya come to the grasshopper meet then ya can all see!
