Led Front Indicators

How to replace your standard orange front indicator bulbs with amber LED bulbs.

The 15 LED emitter gives a brighter light and has a very sharp pulse, much clearer than the standard orange bulbs. In addition the LED cannot be seen through the headlight.

Because the LED’s cause the indicator to over-repeat, a load resistor also needs to be fitted to each side.

Time: approx 20 mins

Equipment & tools required:

1 pair 7440 Amber 15 LED bulbs

1 pair load resistors (comes supplied with crimp connections)

Pliers

3M/Scotch double sided tape pads

1)Start with the offside bulb, it’s easier to get at. Twist and remove the bulb coupling from the back of the headlight unit and replace the standard bulb with the LED.

2)Strip back about 5cm of the plastic shield that conceals the live and ground wires.

3)Crimp one wire of the load resistor to the live wire and one to the ground wire. There is no polarity so it doesn’t matter which wire goes to live or ground.

4)Put 2 or 3 sticky pads on the back of the load resistor, clean a patch of metal bodywork and fix the resistor in place. Replace the bulb coupling in the headlight unit.

5)Repeat for the nearside.

Is there much point in putting in a clear 15 LED orange bulb if you still have that horrid orange reflector?

There is an article somewhere about removing the orange wedge :winky:

Yeah but it mentions something about putting your headlights in the oven and silicone. That to me means two new replacement headlights, 1 new cooker and a few slaps across the back of the head  !
