following on from my crash i'm just wondering when any airbags should be deployed? i wasnt travelling that fast (ABOUT 25-30mph, it was rush hour!) when i had the accident and none of the airbags went off, is this because the impact wasnt that great? cos its done a fair bit of damage as you will see on the other thread. or have i got faulty airbags :o or am i just being paranoid?!

answers on a postcard...

the airbags work of g force/ impact switches in the engine bay/body shell i would say that as for the picture u posted it was mainly the wing that took the impact the force wasnt great enough to trigger the system, it was head on then things may have been different as switches are also directional

yup he is right, the crash sensors will only go off once it has crushed past your radiator!

nope not true mate, as rob said, it works on G-fORCE not the actual sensors being damaged.

the front sensors are located just above the anti roll bars on either chassis leg l/r of the engine, identified by the yellow plug.

the side sensors are at the bottom of the B pillars, behind a plastic cover

the ECU for all the airbags sits in the centre console below the ashtray area, this ecu dictates if and when and more so which airbags need to be deployed

so the impact wasnt big enough to deploy an air bag then, makes sense i guess, i was hard on the brakes and it wasnt a massive impact.i think the damage looks worse cos the trucks wheels kind of pulled the wing back as he was moving across in front of me.

thanks chaps.
