Beware Of Flying Carpets

Recommended Posts

Driving along the M66 at a steady 70mph, all of a sudden a thud and the car verves off to the left. Been smacked by something. See a 8ft roll of carpet bouncing down the motorway.

It had fallen off the roof of a van that was overtaking me and smacked in the drivers side rear door.

Guy stopped and everything, one of those things one of his roof rack bar had come off.

Just been for quote so he is gonna get a nasty shock when he gets bill for new door, paint labour etc.

:offtopic: whilst getting quote saw new GS, looks very smart in black, much better than the photos.

Got all the other drivers details so should be OK. Total quote just over £1k.

Was angry at first but now glad and feel lucky wasn't windscreen/more damage.

Yikes

That's going to be an interesting insurance claim form!! You were incredibly lucky, glad you're OK even if the car took a battering. I was once hit by a 1mx2m sheet of corrugated metal which came off a lorry on the motorway in front of me - too far away to get number plate or any details. Very frightening experience, but very little damage to my car, bizzarely.

Hope it all gets fixed to your satisfaction

Amanda

Guy who owned the company van has been really good about it. Claiming on his insurance so my no claims is uneffected, just waiting for them to book my car in to be fixed.

That's bad luck ;) , i noticed the other day when clean the car ,the doors skins are very soft, they push in very easy ,so an 8ft carpet must have caved it right in :o .
