Insurance On Q Plate

My son in law has just bought a peugot 405 on a Q plate after his Mondeo gave up the ghost Rang Churchill to change his insurance over, and they refused to insure it,eventually got the AA to insure it,but they would only give him third party at a cost of £300, which is more than he was paying for the Mondeo fully comp.

The car was originally registered in the I.O.M.

Why is it so hard to insure these cars on Q plates

Any of you Gurus have an answer for us

Cheers

Pete

Q registered cars are usually given a "Q" plate for several reasons.

Why has the car been given a Q plate ? , pre - written off ? ..... stolen recovered?

Ask him ......... - that's probably why insurance companies want to stay away from it !

Q plates are given when the age of the vehicle is not obtainable

ie: kit cars , and documentless imported cars

strange thing is that the dvla will be selling the Q registrations soon  ;)

Q registrations can also be given if you "abuse" the font / style of your number plate on more than two occasions ............. dvla can issue you with a Q registered plate for use!
