Supercharger Reliability

 Share

Recommended Posts

Im looking into getting the TTE supercharger and wondered how reliable they are?

Anyone had any problems with it yet, either minor or major?

Would like to wait for a definate price for the turbo kit really but im sure i'd be more than happy with a supercharger!

Just worried if it could cause any problems in the future.

Thanks.

it is a sealed for life unit and only requires servicing during a rebuild (as expected)

unlike a turbo u also dont have to wait for a few mins for the unit to cool down or have a timer fitted.

the only weak point was the bypass spring but that has been changed with a modified unit - which is a free upgrade from TTE.

As gord says the hose clamps for the pipe connectors can work loose after initial installation but 10 mins with a screwdriver and its fine.

What is the rebuild interval on the Eaton kit, is it something like 50 - 60k?

I believe Zee's charger was serviced when he was at TTE?

I've done 20k on mine now and she's been fine, just make sure you keep on eye on the hose clamps etc and you should be fine, that's the advantage of the SC I believe, less maintenance long term than a turbo? Someone will correct me if I'm wrong with that?

There's a thread somewheree that documented the probs with the SC, I'll try and dig it out

Thanks for the offer gord. If I had the time id be taking you up on that mate.

Seems like I have little to worry about then.

Only other thing, If say when I come to sell the car, and I remove the charger, would there be no evidence of it ever being fitted? Just thinking ahead a bit and wondered if it might put people off if they know it 'had' one fitted.

Thanks for the replies and the link aido.

Cheers.

You have to modify the heatshield to get the cradle to fit, if you were to sell the SC on you could just swap the heatshield with the new owner so that way yours looks like it's never been modded and theirs will fit straight on without a bashing!

Otherwise I think there may be a little bit of material from behind the bumper that needs removal but I'm not 100% sure on that... I think Gord and Steve removed some of the plastic from the TTE bumper but as for the standard bumper I'm not 100% sure - some of the lads on here will be able to tell you that...

As for a drive, if it's time that's a problem, I'm not far from you at all I think?

when you have one fitted, keep all the standard bits that come off (air box for one) there are some things like the holes you have to make to put the intercooler on, but thay are not to be seen realy, you will have to get a new heat/shield that covers the manifold as this has to have hole / reshaped so the supercharger fits other than that not much ( if when you selling your supercharger to someone else you could swap the parts over as part of the deal) we fitted one to a car the other week that, had a supercharger fitted in the past, we only found out as we took the bumper off, as the holes for the intercooler was there. :o
