Hello all,

my subscription copy of CAR magazine turned up this morning.

First article : "IS man cometh as Lexus heads for the big league" - pictures and details of the new IS250 !! 5 picures including a small one of the interior.

It's a very smart looking car - all that I'd been hoping for after all the discussions that had been going on here in this forum. :D :D :D

Head on it looks surprisingly similar to the current one - rear end is completely different and nothing like a Mazda6. Side view is a lot more coupe-like that the current one - bit GS-like, really. Interior has a touch-senstive screen, none of yer B*W iDrive stuff here, luckily.

Can't include the pictures - I haven't got a scanner!! No dobt one will be along soon.

They confirm the diesel, and the 250 (I do like that !!) will still be available with a manual gearbox - thank gawd. They mention an IS300 but not an IS350. Also rumours of a hybrid and folding top - all the stuff we've read before.

Right...it's off down to the local dealer to put my name down for one.

Interesting, would that mag be in the shops now or out next week? Just wondering as subscribers usually get them before they hit the shelves....

Wonder if they've leaked the pics that Steve & Mat have already if it's not due on the shelves til the 1st, or maybe these are still mock ups - we'll know for sure in under a weeks time anyway ;)

It's the "April" issue so I guess maybe it's not on the shelves yet.

Perhaps I wasn't supposed to read it until 1st March ?

...and they also reckon these are "photograaphed exclusively by CAR in jJpan". Don't look like mock-ups to me. Then again, neither did some of the other pictures we've seen

DeeTees, have you got a digital camera?

If so just use the macro mode to take a quick pic and stick them up here so we can see if these are the same pics Steve has?

You don't really need scanners nowadays!

we as a club would still be violating the embargo ado... we cannot display pics if it is the actual car.

otherwise I might as well stick mine up (and i aint gonna )

I'm a subscriber and my copy hasn't arrived yet ...

Sorry Steve didn't think of that mate, in that case then we can be pretty sure that all of the posts of the Jap mags etc aren't correct as they would have been pulled if they were the real deal?

everyone wants the be the first scoop... just like we want our members to see it here.

only 2 pics were released so where car mag got the rest from beats me unless there is an insider

I'm a CAR subscriber, my copy has arrived too, i'd say pretty certainly these are not photochopped but real pix. You've got to remember CAR magazine is the same publication that had studio concept proposal pictures of the Ford Focus *years* before anyone else (when it looked like a space ship - kinda "no way are Ford gonna replace the Escort with that"!!!) *and* it is the same publication that (probably) got its wrists slapped by BMW for publishing a (rather critical) road test of a pre-production, non-production standard MINI prototype, *before* the press had officially been allowed to drive it at the launch. But they still get BMW's to road test and they still carry BMW adverts, so they'd likely see the risk to them of breaking a press embargo by a couple of days (possibly less if this issue is not yet widely available) is minimal.

As for what the IS250 looks like, it's OK, almost a little bland in some ways, but I'll reserve judgement till I've seen it in the metal. The views in CAR are mainly "straight on" - front, side, rear, not many "three quarter" views etc, so it's difficult to tell.

However, I remember (in fact I've still got...) the first launch article from CAR magazine on the original IS200, and that provoked a strong "must have one" reaction in me which this one has not. (That's not to say I won't end up buying one one day) :)

I've photo'd my Car mag - it arrived a minute ago - can I post the pics or not ?

Cheers Andy - looking good mate, only 12 days til we can touch it at Geneva :winky:

Help - no more PM's please - will someone let me post them up here - I'm drowning !!!!! :hehe:

You can see PM usage going through the roof in last click view!!!

Perhaps it would be OK to post them in Gold ?

Posted

I do have to be honest and say that at first glance the pics do seem the sort of things that Lexus have used in their official photo's in the past, in terms of colour schemes and typefaces etc....

If they are official then they couldn't really be posted until Tuesday otherwise Steve could get his ***** kicked for breach of confidentiality / NDA agreements - sure they'll pop up on other sites around the world soon enough....

I'm certain this is it - esp for Car to be publishing in the way they have - just surprised if they have launched the mag ahead of the official release date for the pics.

Can't be much harm is publishing them on LOC as they are now in public domain - but waiting for official OK from someone before I do ...

VERY disapointed if that's it.

Not sporty at all.

Another one that follows the Merc/B*W/Audi crowd in my opinion.... <_<

Won't be rushing out to get one..... I hope it looks better at Geneva in the flesh..... :crybaby:
