Went into my local lexus dealer today to buy front and rear pads only to be told i had to drive down the road to the toyota garage to get them ,feeling a bit p :tsktsk: off i asked the salesman (who was a jumped up little t :tsktsk: ,the type i am relising lexus love to employ)if i have my lexus serviced with them could i have toyota rates ,to which his reply was no as it is worked on by a lexus tech .so i said thats ok mine is a toyota supra in drag so a toyota tech will be fine ,he then asked me why i did not want to pay lexus money because surley when i bought the car i knew how dear they were to work on :crying: ,so i stated that i now have a car that is nearly ten years old and dont feel i should be paying the same rate as someone with a brand new LS430 that comes with more toys and computers than pc world .when i got down to the toyota dealer i asked for discount only to be told they do not do it and £107 will be the price as it is a lexus part and i am paying for quality ,they do a discount for parts if your toyota is more than 6 years old but not lexus .so i get the part open the box and toyota is printed all over the pads ,so lets get this right i have to pay lexus servicing prices to have toyota pads fitted at a toyota garage is it me or is something amiss here surely if i am having toyota parts fitted i can have a toyota tech put them in :duh: .anyway how can they justify £107 for brake pads .Whilst on the subject do's anyone know if the rears are straightforward or do i have to wind the pistons in or anything like that . :D

Any garage can fit and supply parts to the original spec of the car. Even if the car has a warrenty as long as the parts are of original spec its still valid. Why pay Toyota prices never mind Lexus when you could save money going to one of the jap specialists. Just a thought....

That price does seem very harsh!! Think I would have said something to that Salesman to.

I'd be sacked if I said to a customer that "when i bought the car i knew how dear they were to work on" Errr, no!!! I would have said.

Lexus technician, get over yourself, their mechanics, who get to work on very well engineered cars, surely if anything, they should be cheaper to work on.

Fortunatley I have 2 uncles and several friends who are mechanics so this sort of thing would never happen.

Name and shame as rodders says :yack:

All parts come in Toyota boxes and have Toyota on them.

Do those pads fit any Toyota models in this country? If not then they are only a 'Lexus' part.

it was not so much the fact that they had toyota written on them but the fact that if i wanted them fitted i had to pay lexus prices ,now bear in mind i am standing in a toyota garage with the parts that have toyota written on them with a bloke saying that will be £20 an hour extra cause you have a lexus because we have trained a toyota mechanic to work on your car, B:tsktsk: S :tsktsk: have they my car was purchased from new (not by me)from toyota as were all lexus roughly 10 years ago ,who worked on them then TOYOTA did .if i am gonna pay lexus prices i want lexus service ,not sit there sir while we run your car up the road to the nearest toyota garage to fit parts with toyota stamped on them for lexus prices .

Dave i would have taken you up on the offer but they hit metal today whilst my wife was driving and i was desprate for them ,have had to settle for a pattern part but at £47 for both sets its quite a saving.

Rodders sorry just read my post again and probaly did not make it clear enough .they did not refuse to sell them to me it was just they have no parts dept or workshop facilitys so they send everyone down the road to their toyota garage .

For a Toyota dealer to service Lexus they need to be authorised which means mechanics have to be trained on Lexus vehicles etc.

Lexus is just marketing, the vehicles are higher priced and the spares and labour rates reflect this.

The price of spare parts doesn't have very much to do with the cost to manufacture that part but more to do with what they can charge for the market they are in.

Have just replaced my pads all round and have noticed the old pads that were installed by lexus have not got toyota stamped on then like the ones that the toyota garage were going to supply .so much for only fitting quality parts and paying lexus prices etc when they are just fitting the jap equivalent .why can one garage supply toyota (lexus)pads but the other that fitted them and supplied them fits aftermarket ones .something not right me thinks could it be because the first lexus garage fitted them, they also made a bit on the pads ,were as the second lexus garage that only supplys them has a bigger mark up on the origanal pads .Is it just me being suspicious ??

I think I know who your on about Tony..

I can feel your frustration, my warranty issue is still 'under consideration'  :tsktsk:

well good luck with it,the worst of it is this issue involves two garages both in the same dealership group ,so why are they using different parts .as far as i am concerned if the proper toyota ,lexus parts exsist they should have gone on my car in the beginning not these others

Have you tried speaking to Mike Barter, he's the main man there apparently. That's whose dealing with my case at the moment.

Got a courtesy call from him yesterday , just giving me an update on whats going on.

The salesmen you refer to wasn't the service guy was it!?

No mate it was just a salesman ,i am gonna make a few calls because on my last service i was told i needed new pads and discs on the rear ,the pads are not even half worn and the discs were replaced 20k ago by lexus ,20k seems very quick to wear ut discs in lexus ones that are so obviousley made from recycled tin :tsktsk: foil

The plot thickens ,lexus covenrty have just quoted me £87 inc vat for the same pads with toyota written on them .nearly £20 more from lexus Canterbury

When I needed the geometry check I phoned 4 Lexus dealers. The price ranged from 45 squid to an unbelievable 215 - all for the same thing.

Not that I would ever take my car back to Lexus as they are all useless. After I took my car for its last service I had to take it back to get air bled out of the coolant, only to find last week that the idiots have broken my header tank - which of course they deny.

I had my cam belt changed 2 weeks ago by an independent mechanic. For a car that has been regularly serviced by Lexus the old belt was in a terrible state and was a wonder that it hadn't snapped long ago. I thought these were inspected on every service. I shall get some pictures of it up now I have a new computer. There is no way on gods’ earth anyone can say a belt degraded as much as this in the 3 months since my last service - it's half the width and resembles fibre glass cladding.

And if anyone remebers the service I had prior to that at Bracknell where they didn't actually bother carrying the service out at all, then I have to ask the following question:

Are these “Technicians” that have to be trained to "Lexus standards", trained by carrying out work on customers cars, And if it were trainees that have serviced my car on the last 2 occasions, why did I pay full price????

Its really starting to make me wonder if lexus servicing is a good idea, when i get mine done i might arrange to watch them carry out the so called service on my car, they look like a bunch of monkies at lexus nottingham anyway. Can they refuse to let you view the work they carry out on the car?

Thanks Colin, I thought it'd be something to do with health and safety and insurance reasons, its just I don't think I could trust the lexus monkies (sorry I meant mechanics) at lexus nottigham as far as i could throw them. they were all hanging around the garage entrance looking at a fellow monkies subaru impreza, surely they had something more important to be doing...
