just got flashed doing 37 in a 30 but i was in a 40mph zone and no signs to say it had changed to 30mph purely around the speed camera. (untill i went back and saw that some one probably kids had spun the only sign around 180 degrees, so as not to be visable to me)

it flashed me twice and now im a bit fooked off, as its christmas eve (or was when i started typing)

am i due for 3 or 6 points? or can i argue it out with them? it wasnt fair as the camera was also hidden, behind a tree and i was obeying the previous speed of 40mph.

cheers

Ouch...

sorry mate, looks like Santa's evil helper has given you 3 points early...

The sign being turned around prolly wount carry much weight if you try and challenge it in court.

If you have a clean licence then 3 points would effect your insurance.

Merry Xmas...

I'e been flashed twice, twice and never actually received anything, dont some of them not have a film in or something? Maybe you'll get lucky!

It would only be three points anyway, which like already stated shouldnt effect your insurance as it's an SP30 not dangerous driving or anything like that.

Chris,

Firstly - you have 14 (working) days ..... to receive the ticket.

So, that might not even come through, if the gatso has run out of film.

As for the sign that has been spun around, I'm afraid that will go no where in court.

37mph in a 30mph zone = £60 fine and 3 points.

ut untill you get the ticket through the post, I wouldn't worry your self too much !

Merry Crimbo !

shame realy as next year i was gonna protect all my no claims! hmmm me gonna be getting spanked by the insurance company if it ever comes thru.

cheers for the advise fella, be careful when driving in canterbury!

points on a licence does not have anything to do with your NCB..

monday just gone i attended a speed awareness programme (instead of 3 points for 36 in a 30), some facts for you.

out of the 330 odd gatso's only 28 odd have cameras in them.

a 30 zone does not have to have ANY signs saying it is,, if there are regulary spaced street lights then that is a 30..unless told otherwise at regular intervals.. bottom line is if in doubt then the national speed limit for the road applies.

in some villages that do not have regular spaced lights, you can do 70 if the village council have beed tight and not put up signs saying otherwise,, but common sense prevails as the road is so narrow and houses are bang on the road.

out if 20 in this programme, only 6 of us new the national limits on the roads.

its not speed that kills, its the mistakes people make that kills.

You mean you can do 70 on non dual carriageway roads ?

Thought if it wasn't dual carriageway, white with black stripe sign meant 60 :duh:

I better wedge my foot down a bit further then :shifty:

Hmmm, were you one of the 6 that knew the limits ? :P

Interestingly, there's a stretch of dual carriageway in north Wales that has 70mph signs rather than the usual black and white national speed limit signs. This doesn't make much difference for solo cars and motorcycles, since their national speed limit is 70mph anyway, but I wonder what the implications are for cars towing trailers, goods vehicles and coaches etc. which would usually be limited to less than 70mph.

Unless there was markings on the your side of the carriageway, you can't be prosecuted for front facing gatso's.

The Gatso will flash, twice even, but unless there are actual road markings on your lane, (which usually there isn't) then don't worry about it !

thanks for the reply scarface, there were no markings on my side and i also thought you could not get done by forward facing gatso's with the flash ,but i have looked on the camera sites and this one works both ways so not sure realy

Mr Scarface is indeed correct, with the Gatsometer style cameras they do require the markings on the road as this forms the secondary evidence..

What you should be careful of are:

a. Double sided Gatsometer cameras (there are some in Bournmouth for sure, not seen any any where else... yet)

b. Truvelo forward facing cameras. These are the ones with the 'pink' IR lense and point at you. These CAN be used to also take a picture from behind!!!

Next opn the list of things to watch out for are:

a. Digital enforcement cameras (no running out of film!). These will first appear in teh ATM section of the M42, and the new widened section of the M25 (Heathrow T5 access works).

b. Speedcameras that work in the dark....!!!!! Using IR flash, you will be suprised how well the VRN of a car shows up (or if you know about the VRN construction and the devices used.. you won't be supprised!! :) )

Looks like the days of the open road are dwindeling......

HTH :)
