Anybody thinking of getting breakdown cover should consider Lexus Roadside Assistance. The cover is basically the same as the top option from RAC (solution 4) or the AA (option 400).

RAC cost - joint - £184 or £173 (Continuous Payment)

AA cost - joint - £205 or £155 (Continuous Payment)

Lexus cost - joint - £80 or £70 (Continuous Payment)

Now the RAC and AA give no claims discounts of up to 50% but it still works out more expensive even after years of membership!

I seem to remember the rate increasing once you had paid the 80 quid to renew the first time your 3 years cover had expired. The 80 quid is to pull you in, and it's available on continuous payment only. So once, you have direct debit set up, it relies on human nature (i.e. laziness), that people can't be asked to cancel it if price rises, and look for another supplier. RAC used to be one of my clients, and this is their standard tactic to retain customers by putting them on continuous payment methods rather than paying by debit card each year.

£80 is a one off price. £70 for continuous. Had it on my wife's IS as part of the used car warranty package which expired and have just taken it out again.
