Android Auto apps

Hi all. I have a 21 UX250h with Android Auto that I have hardly used in my 3 years of ownership. Found it a faff having to connect and disconnect the phone all the time with a lead. 

I was considering purchasing one of those wireless dongles so it may encourage me to then use it more often. So today I thought I would spend some time sat on my driveway learning how to use it properly before spending any money. I must say, I am not too impressed with the lack of apps available on the car screen as I imagine I would only use Google maps. Is there any way to add more phone apps to the car screen or are we stuck with the ones provided?

I have one of these:

and found it very easy to set up and use. My phone automatically connects to it and android auto appears on the car screen. 

If you look at the android auto settings on your phone you can add apps for navigation,  music messages etc and they will then be available in your car.

Waze is (in my opinion) a much better navigation app than Google maps, although, having recently downloaded the 'magic earth' navigation app, I think it is better still.

For music I use the  N7 app. Obviously the music needs to be on your phone for that to work,  however apps like Spotify will work too, although you would need an Internet connection

It depends on what you want.

Navigation - Waze is my personal favourite but I also have Google Maps and Sygic
Music - amazon Music, Spotify, YouTube Music for streaming, TuneIn Radio, VR radio for hundreds, even thousands of Internet stations.
Television - BBC iPlayer, ITVX, MySky, Channel 4, Channel 5, WorldTV, YouTube
Tool Apps, such as Dr. Prius, Hybrid Assistant, OBD Fusion

and lots of other stuff too.
