What year the build quality was the best. Also, is there anything i should look out for before parting with cash?

You won't get a choice, they come with a used 12 months warranty.

Colin you can extend them until the car is 7 years old. Well thats what my dealer told me.

Check the alloys for corrosion and pitting. Get them to fit parking sensors on models pre 2001. Rear view mirror is convex and a pain to use
