Activating the Lexus provided Tracker

Recommended Posts

Hi All, I've had the free Tracker installed by Lexus on my NX (2019) this week. When they install it they give you a small credit card with the serial number on (Well I assume it's the serial number!) . A few days later you get an email from Tracker with an activation code on to enable you register on their website and use the tracking capability. However when I register I just get an error (not found etc)....

Has anyone had any success in registering?

Thanks All

The tracker itself isn't activated until you report your car as stolen so it doesn't provide any day-to-day tracking functionality. It's the associated OBD device, that is usually fitted along with the tracker, that provides the realtime tracking capability (via the Tracker smartphone app).

Assuming that Lexus have fitted this OBD device to your NX then the following post that I made on another, related, thread may help:-

I received a card with a code written on it and then received 2 emails - I think one was for the tracker and one for the OBD device. I also couldn’t register with the serial number on the card, which was on one of the emails but the other email had a serial number that worked. It was a longer, numerical code if I remember correctly. I had received the emails by the time I got home from the dealer.

I had mine fitted and got 2 emails from Tracker but couldn't log in. I called Tracker and was told I don't have access to the app as the OBD device wasn't fitted to my vehicle. So basically, don't assume your Lexus dealer fitted it automatically. It's very annoying.

I’ve had one of these trackers fitted by my Lexus dealer and have got the ‘credit’ card. No follow up E Mails from anyone.  Contacted Tracker, no reply.  What the hell I’m supposed to do next Lord knows🙄🙄😡

I got given the red card and within an hour of leaving the dealership I got an email from Tracker with the registration document attached and that was it. If you didn't get the email from Tracker I would call the dealer that done it as it sounds like they haven't registered it.

Our tracker (for our UX300e) was registered by the dealer before we collected our vehicle. I was also given the credit card by the dealer, plus received an email from Tracker along with important info including customer number on the same day.

I am having trouble activating the Tracker app on my Iphone, but it appears there is an issue with some trackers being fitted (I don't have the geofence part activated yet).

I think the key word here is ‘register’ not ‘activate’🤔 as long as you’re able to ensure everything is registered, activation takes place if your car is actually stolen🤔 as I say, I have one fitted, but no evidence to suggest it’s registered.  I’ll be back onto the dealer and Tracker next week🤔🙄🙄

I had the same issue when trying to register and use the app for the first time. The serial number on the card is not for the OBD device, and doesn't support the app.

My dealer had left all the packaging that came with the tracker and OBD device in the car, the serial number for the OBD device that I used to successfully register the app was printed on the black padded envelope which said Tracker OBD.

Have you had one fitted - it is not a disaster.  The dealer should register once they complete the fitting and provide them (Tracker) with your contact details, who will then email you with the necessary details - fitting of the Tracker and GEO and the email attaching the documents all happened on the same day in my case. Yes, I have been frustrated in recent times with the level of customer care and the product compared with my earlier 20 plus years of Lexus ownership, but I will give them credit where its due especially as I have a Gen 2 NX not subject to the CANBUS attacks and both Lexus HO and the local Lexus dealer contacted me offering these free of charge.

Exactly the same scenario here with our NX450h, dealer told us when booking in for the last recall that the car was listed as also due the tracker & GEO if we wanted them fitting whilst they had the car.

Excellent service once again from Lexus Ipswich.

The Conclusion:

1. Tracker was fitted by Lexus (Bristol). they seem to pre-register your details with Tracker, although this does not mean you can access the account/track online.  They provide a small credit card with a few references numbers.

2. The day after installation I received an email from Tracker with a “Security Token” number on.  Keep this email!!

3. I phoned Tracker, they already had my details but the account wasn’t activated. I installed the Tracker Touch app.  They provided me the serial number (needed to open the app) over the phone and then you need enter the Security token from the email in step 2

4. You can complete the registration in the app with all the usual details (name, address etc).

Note: the email address Lexus provided needs to match the email address you use here.

5. The app is then usable, you can see the position of the car, see the Battery status, set the geofence status. Lexus have provided a 3year subscription to OBD.  So that’s it! All working

Thanks all for all the replies.

Can someone explain to me what the OBD part of this tracker is?. Surely any thief worth their salt will unplug anything connected to the OBD port rendering it ineffective?

What I'm struggling to understand is that the Gen2  NX uses UWB with its key fob (no key cloning) and TSK software rendering canbus attacks ineffective. So why such a push to install these trackers on Gen2 vehicles?

Is there a significant insurance premium discount associated with their fitment? If not I don't see the benefit.

I let my insurer (Direct Line) know yesterday that a Tracker had been fitted. Thank you, they said, continuing with, "like dashcams, we don’t count it as a modification so there is no extra premium to pay". I was hoping for a reduction, no chance apparently.

I can see what you're saying but there are other ways that the car can be stolen apart from the methods you have described so anything that may help you to recover it should the worse happen is a bonus, especially if it is provided free of charge. For example, my partner's neighbour had the keys to her Mercedes ripped out of her hand as she was going into her house on Sunday by 2 burly men who then drove off with the car. Fortunately the car had a tracker on it and was recovered within a few hours and is currently undergoing forensic checks.

With regards to any potential insurance discount, I guess this is unlikely bearing in mind how most insurers see car owners as cash cows but who knows. My policy with Lexus Insurance is up for renewal next February so I'll wait and see.

I agree that if a thief wants a car they'll go to extremes to get it. Locally thieves smashed down the front door of a house and demanded the keys to 2 vehicles, from the terrified owners, which they duely took.

However I'm not sure I would want my car back after it was stolen as they often trash the vehicle after/during using it, unless it went to a chop shop if they were able remove the tracker.

From what I understood, the OBD device is just for the app and used for tracking the vehicle on the app. Apparently they have also installed a Battery powered hidden tracker that if the vehicle is stolen, you can call Tracker to activate it.

You need to report the vehicle stolen to the Police first & obtain a crime reference number.

Tracker require that crime reference number before they will trigger the tracker & start sharing the vehicles location with the Police.
