My dear Len, rarely a day goes by when I am not entertained by your quixotic contributions but today I think they need to feel the warm embrace of some facts🙂

Whilst it's true the pet eating comments remain unsubstantiated what isn't is Eastern Europeans taking carp from our rivers and ponds. I recall being told that the CV-19 shot (not a vaccine) would stop me getting it, passing it on and do me no harm. I am waiting for substantiation.

DJTrump attended a Military Academy, Fordham University and graduated from one of the top two business schools in America, Wharton, with a degree in economics - hardly a slouch 🙂

From the Snopes fact-checking site

What's True:

During an April 2020 media briefing, Trump did ask members of the government's coronavirus task force to look into whether disinfectants could be injected inside people to treat COVID-19. But when a reporter asked in a follow-up question whether cleaning products like bleach and isopropyl alcohol would be injected into a person, the then-president said those products would be used for sterilizing an area, not for injections.

What's False:

However, at no point did Trump explicitly tell people they could or should inject bleach into their bodies.

Feeling warmer yet 😀

Positively glowing (or I would have been had I been silly enough to listen to Trump.

Watch: Dr. Birx reacts as Trump suggests ‘injection’ of disinfectant to beat coronavirus

The only slack I can cut him is not that he didn't say it, but listening to his cadence and intonation it is clear he is reading from notes probably written for him and what he is saying is not being said in a tone of belief ,but as a question of interest or curiosity , almost a question (are we going to look into this). Still damning objectively. I mean is there really someone out there who thinks there are any reasonable grounds by which you could ingest disinfectant and not be badly sick from it? If so, you have my sympathy.

Communication on Covid was like many things, confused. It was coming from multiple sources. Not all medically trained. I would say most who were medically trained knew to couch the message correctly that a vaccine worked for Covid like it works for flu. It dials down the effects in most people ,but clearly it does not stop you getting it. Politicians though likely didn't get the nuances, or perhaps they don't want to get it who knows. Obviously it's more reassuring for the public if a politician says one thing rather than the other even if it is not factually correct

Which kind of leads us back to Trump. Unlike Len I don't think he is badly educated ,or indeed stupid. I think he is much worse than that. He is intelligent and intelligent enough to understand some of the Psychology of communicating with people who are not that intelligent ,or perhaps who are just very suggestible. They already want to hear what you are saying ,because they are already invested in that belief. That is clearly a lot easier and more beneficial for securing votes than challenging their beliefs when you know they are not based in reality.  In a purely objective sense it might even make you a more effective politician to be walking around without any code of ethics to live by. Lord knows we elect a lot like that over here as well so it appears to be working well as a strategy for advancing your political career.

I say let America give Trump another go, that’s what democracy is all about.

In a nutshell, Marcus!  The advantage of a democracy is that it enables the citizens to choose their law makers.  The disadvantage is that they can only choose from those prepared to stand!

I’ve long believed that voting in the UK should be compulsory for adults - but that the voting slips should have an additional box…None Of The Above!

I think that many Americans found they had an invidious choice to make.  After all, even our new Government managed to back the wrong horse!

My sentiments exactly. Aligns with the idea from Hall "I many not agree with what you say, but I will defend your right to say it". In this case "you may make the wrong choice ,but I will defend your right to make that mistake" ...oops

A great find, Stephen!

Clearly the highly regarded Dr. Deborah Birx had no illusions as to what Trump was suggesting.  It would be interesting to know if she will feature in his new Administration….

I guess she should be glad she isn't Russian and prone to falling from high places.

Very well put, Stephen!

It’s a long time since a politician could unite a Nation by declaring that the only thing he could promise was…
“…blood, toil, tears and sweat.”

Now what works is the promise of a giant leap to the sunny uplands and an America that’s great again.  Well, what’s not to like?

When I have listened to Trump tub-thumping I used to wonder why he also wasn’t claiming to cure all known diseases and bring Peace on Earth. Now I am beginning to think he may be correcting that omission!

Oh this Dr Birx? Nov 27th

The former White House coronavirus response coordinator on Sunday said she is looking forward to the Senate confirmation hearing of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who President-elect Trump tapped for his secretary of Health and Human Services, as a unique opportunity to have a transparent discussion on the health of Americans.

Like Dr. Birx, I too am looking forward to the Senate confirmation hearing of RFK Jnr!  As for RFK himself….I suspect not so much.

If Dr. Birx is involved I can imagine it will indeed present a unique and public opportunity to expose RFK’s beliefs to forensic analysis.

BTW:  Slightly puzzled by your reference to the date Nov 27.  What year was that?  Or - as is entirely possible - have I misunderstood it?

Democrat or Republican, the objective truth is that the average US worker, if such thing exists, has less of everything. Less pay, less coverage, fewer work benefits, fewer options, less purchasing power, less heatlh... most struggle to afford the basics of life.
Productivity per employee, aided by technology, has skyrocketed. Yet the life that was presented as the one of "the average factory man" in the early 90s (The Simpsons) is now an unattainable dream for most.

Both Democrats & Republicans have adopted Reaganomics as their bible, and are now facing its disastrous consequences (not them personally, but working people). Chickens are coming home to roost, as they say.

And we're not better here: same can be said about Tatcherism being the UK's de-facto M.O. for many decades now. We planted seeds and it's been harvest time for a while. The country is in tatters.

Nothing to do with Birx. The video and the words being spoken are all one needs to attend to to be clear as to this issue.

From CBS News

I'm actually excited that in a Senate hearing he would bring forward his data and the questions that come from the senators would bring forth their data," Birx said on "Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan." "What I know for sure is he's a very smart man who can bring his data and his evidence base forward, and we can have a discussion that many Americans believe already is a problem."

Could she be a fan I wonder?

How memory fades so very quickly! Presented with a novel virus the world knew not it's heritage, how it was transmitted or it's full consequences. The pharmaceutical industry, the medical profession, the politicians, in fact anyone the proletariat might expect to have an answer had none. So didn't it make sense to explore any avenue however unlikely however "left of field"? Unless if course you are Monday morning quarter back?

I also seem to recall in July 21 Operation Warp Speed was an unattainable goal but I could be wrong 🤔

Instead of deflection let's get back to core. You defended Trump on the issue of had he actually made a statement referring to the injection of disinfectant/cleaning substances.  You were wrong. The video and the words are crystal clear. He said it. However, rather than own that you would rather deflect to a stance ,ok he said it ,but here's all the good reasons and how dare you criticise etc.

Actually, my criticism of him was fairly lame. Clearly , in that video he wasn't speaking with belief or conviction so much as he was interested to see if anyone thought as an idea it had legs. Fair enough. I actually just don't get why you want to defend the indefensible rather be open minded and have a look at it. I didn't know whether he said it ,or not, but it took only two seconds to find out.

My last word on that subject is I expect disinfectant and cleaning materials were mentioned (rightly) by someone that they had a role to play in managing the transmission of the virus. Someone else without any medical knowledge may have picked up on that and wondered innocently can the use of same be extended?

As booh boohs go I have seen and heard worse.

Of the process?  Yes, I suspect she is.  I wonder if we’ll be able to watch the proceedings over here?

Turn it into a movie and it could be as influential as the 1939 “Mr. Smith goes to Washington”.  Apparently, the Senate was never quite the same again!
