I read the Beano ( from the esteemed DC Thomson of Dundee ) for years, a very influential and erudite publication.  I had to cancel my subs recently due to the budget cuts.

Even Private Eye made multiple references to it when they published Lord Snooty and his pals' diary AKA David Cameron and gov't amongst others such as Gnasher and Dennis the menace.

Well, against all the odds the now confirmed 47th President Elect, Donald J Trump has prevailed. This has been an extraordinary achievement in electoral history. Having settled one question, can he win, to, now what? For me I am intrigued to see how he might affect the automotive world. Might his belief in energy independence over there end up over here I wonder? It certainly could be positive for the ICE world.

Will He Once Again Cancel all The Money going in to Preserve The planet From Global Warming..Because If he Does it Will have The most Devastating Catastophic Destruction of the Planet..Unless we get a handle on Global Warming None of us Will be Alive On This Planet...That's the Reality..!!!!

The only consistent for me is popcorn.

🍿🍿 🍿

Popcorn to watch otherwise sensible people losing their heads at another nation’s democratic election results.

Popcorn for those claiming only “cis, white, straight, non-disabled men” are safe under Trump (huge Trump gains amongst women, Hispanics, blacks etc. all ignored in their blinkered reality, and where 1 in 5 LGBT voters voted Trump too)

and yes, popcorn for the next 4 years, as a Trump is rather unpredictable.

More people in the USA thought he was a better President than the other option, and for many, sadly, tolerance of people having different views has sadly disappeared.

That lack of tolerance, losers consent, acceptance that people have different views - this poses a far greater danger to our society than Trump ever would (and yes that applies to Trump & and his supporters in 2020 too!).

In which case you may like this Ronnie from today

Using official data from the Met Office and other sources, this paper examines UK climate trends and assesses the truth of claims that UK weather is becoming ‘more extreme’.

Findings include:

·         The frequency of days with extreme temperatures has been in decline since the 1970s, as more hot days have been offset by fewer cold ones.

·         While winters have become slightly wetter, there has been little change in rainfall trends for the other seasons. In particular, summers are not getting drier, as projections have suggested.

·         Wind storms have been declining in frequency and intensity since the 1990s.

In the words of author, Paul Homewood:

“Despite widespread claims to the contrary, our weather in the UK is not becoming more extreme. In fact, although slightly warmer on average, it has changed very little over the years.”

GWPF director, Dr Benny Peiser said:

“In light of frequent exaggeration and alarmism, it is vital that the public get a level-headed analysis of the UK climate. Too often public perceptions are a long way from what the underlying data shows.”

The Orange Golem has been elected! He promises spectacle from day one, like a modern-day Caligula appointing whacky horses to his cabinet.
Lo & behold... foreign policy won't change substantially, bar de-escalating the failed Ukranian war.
Alas, lame-duck Biden has just authorised Zelensky to target areas of inland Russia with long-range missiles (Blinken et al. doubling down ontheir backing of an authoritarian government) to re-escalate, thus creating a problem for the new the Trump administration.
...In the meantime, US citizens will keep struggling to afford the basics of life. Trump has zero solutions, but has Joe Rogan to disseminate new conspiracy theories, so who cares. Half of them citizens voted for a guy who asserted the Asian community ate their pets (and he got an applause).

I don’t know the one about the Asian community, but he certainly repeated false rumours about immigrants.  In this case it was a pet-eating claim referencing Haitian immigrants in Ohio!

I think Trump must be the most poorly educated President in my lifetime.  He’s worryingly susceptible to making totally unsupported claims.  During the Covid pandemic I recall watching him pronounce that he had it on good authority that drinking bleach was an effective form of protection.

Well, it would certainly be a distraction!

My dear Len, rarely a day goes by when I am not entertained by your quixotic contributions but today I think they need to feel the warm embrace of some facts🙂

Whilst it's true the pet eating comments remain unsubstantiated what isn't is Eastern Europeans taking carp from our rivers and ponds. I recall being told that the CV-19 shot (not a vaccine) would stop me getting it, passing it on and do me no harm. I am waiting for substantiation.

DJTrump attended a Military Academy, Fordham University and graduated from one of the top two business schools in America, Wharton, with a degree in economics - hardly a slouch 🙂

From the Snopes fact-checking site

What's True:

During an April 2020 media briefing, Trump did ask members of the government's coronavirus task force to look into whether disinfectants could be injected inside people to treat COVID-19. But when a reporter asked in a follow-up question whether cleaning products like bleach and isopropyl alcohol would be injected into a person, the then-president said those products would be used for sterilizing an area, not for injections.

What's False:

However, at no point did Trump explicitly tell people they could or should inject bleach into their bodies.

Feeling warmer yet 😀

Having been a member of multiple car forums over the years, the Lexus owners club is by far the most balanced I’ve ever encountered.  I very much enjoy reading differing opinions without it descending into playground tit for tat.

I have found myself becoming ever more cynical of the media over the last few years, having experienced first hand how the press sometimes peddle half-truths to fit a narrative.

I say let America give Trump another go, that’s what democracy is all about…what’s the worst that could happen 🤣

Yes, I do recall that.  Mind you, isn’t it called ‘fishing’ when British anglers do it? I think the only difference is that one group put the fish back; the other eat them! I only tried fishing once and fortunately for both the fish and myself...I didn’t catch anything.  🙂

Sorry, I don’t know what a Covid 19 shot is. I will say that no vaccine stops you contracting an infection, but it does mitigate its effect.

Unfortunately, a BSc in Economics does not necessarily filter out a susceptibility to misinformation. The late James Randi would often demonstrate that the more highly educated a scientist was, the easier they were to fool.(cf Uri Geller).

As a long-term supporter of Snopes, I’m delighted that you thought to cite them as I was able to refresh my aged memory of the Press Conference that Trump actually gave.

Neither Trump - nor I - actually suggested that anyone should inject bleach.  Here's one clarification from Snopes.

Trump Didn't Advise People to 'Inject Bleach' to Treat COVID-19. But This Is What He Did Say | Snopes.com

I certainly was in error in recalling a mention of 'drinking' bleach. But Trump did ask about injecting disinfectant. The bleach reference came from a journalist.

Snopes cites this by Trump:

"THE PRESIDENT:  Right. And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning." (My emphasis added)

"Four minutes later, a journalist responded to Trump's disinfectant comments by asking whether there was any scenario in which cleaning products like bleach and isopropyl alcohol would be injected into people.

Bryan replied first, (That’s Bill Bryan, head of the science and technology directorate at the Department of Homeland Security) saying: "No, I'm here to talk about the findings that we had in the study. We won't do that within that lab, our lab."

(I suggest that Trump then picks up on Bryan’s correction and changes what he’d said a moment earlier. Or maybe had someone commenting via an earpiece.)

"Trump then clarified his own remarks, adding: "It wouldn't be through injection. We're talking about through almost a cleaning, sterilization of an area. “

At no point in the media briefing did the then-president recommend that people inject bleach or other disinfectants into their bodies. He merely asked experts whether disinfectants could be injected to tackle COVID-19; a stance he later rowed back on when pressed by a journalist."

Maybe I’m just an old cynic Phil (!) but to me saying “And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute.  And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside” sounds exactly like he’s talking about injecting disinfectant! Surely, even asking “whether disinfectants could be injected to tackle COVID-19” would strike most people as a rather bizarre question for anyone to ask!

I can't imagine Margaret Thatcher asking such a question!  But then she did have an Honours Degree in Chemistry!

PS.  If this post ends up looking like a typographical nightmare, I blame my computer!
