Hi All

I rather stupidly left my spare key somewhere when on holiday so went to order a new one from Lexus to collect when my 2014 CT200 is in for its next service. The quote was £500 for a new key which to me seems beyond ridiculous as a new key for my BMW was less than half this amount, and lets be honest BMW are not known for their parts being cheap! So my question is what alternatives do I have - does anyone know how easy it would be to get a perhaps secondhand unit and have that coded to the car? Or if I want a spare key am I going to have to pay Lexus this extortionate amount for the privilege, thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Timpsons do them for modern cars, you find them at most out of town supermarkets these days,  give them a try.

Hi, Thanks for that info, unfortunately Timsons actually want more for a new key than Lexus. Does anyone know who could code one of the aftermarket blank keys from eBay, which are a reasonable £47 as opposed to £500 from Lexus?

Anyone with access to Toyota Techstream software and an existing master key can program a new one. Just make sure the key is the same as your existing one and that the immobiliser chip hasn't already been programmed.

Silly charges for new keys now, I popped into Timpson's last week thinking another front Porch key might be handy to have cut. It needed to be ordered from the lock maker for £38 and that's one that doesn't need programming just a couple of grooves cut on a standard security blank. I told the guy I was debating if it was worth the risk of getting burgled later or robbed now. 🤔

Yes I did say Porch not Porsche.

Solved with AA key replacement service - they come to the house to do the work and key comes with 12 month guarantee. There price 1/3rd of Lexus!
