Brake Pad Longevity

Wotsha Mellow Fembers,

My 2018 RX450h just turned over 38k miles, and the garage who supplied and serviced it originally have no record of having done pads or discs. Much as I understand its electric motor(s) are partly responsible for some of the braking, do you think it feasible I am running on the original brakes at 38k miles…? I am also aware original owner may have done them elsewhere.

They are not  the quietest pads in use so I may change to another brand whilst discs are still ok.

Yes 38k should easily be possible. My wife's NX had disks and pads changed at about 60k I think and my RX has original ones at about 44k so far.

Yes most likely the originals due to the regenerative braking, you will also notice a lot less brake dust accumulating on the wheels.

Probably are originals. My RX450h was on 65k original pads

Certainly did notice that, Anders……discs are showing next to zero wear ridge too. I was not aware regenerative braking took up so much brake wear. Pleased I am though. Going by the brake “groan” on pedal release, I presume the original pads to be Textar. Noisy on Ravs too.

I put new pads and disks on my (2010) 450H a couple of months ago at 63k miles.

Pads were shot and front disks were quite worn - original brakes as far as I am aware - I've had the car since 2014.

Pretty sure lexus originals are Advics. Also if the groan youre talking about is the one that comes from the rear especially in stop and go traffic. Its normal. My previous IS did it even after changing to EBC and my current GS also does it (presumably original advics). When the time comes i recommend going with EBC ultimax as i had negligible dust on my IS the GS seems to generate a lot of dust with what i think are original discs and pads.
