LEXUS LBX LOST KEY

Recommended Posts

I received a new LEXUS LBX COOL ADVANCE about 15 days ago. Wanting to see the new car I made a trip. At one stop, I put the key on the roof of the car to take off my jacket, but I got into the car forgetting the key on the roof. The car started normally and I drove away at about 78 km. When I stopped and went to get out I found that I couldn't find the key and then I remembered that I had left it on the roof of the car, from which it had fallen onto the road without my realizing it. I was impressed that the car was running normally without the key. Luckily I had the second keys with me in a special case so they don't emit radio waves. I put the car in front and told my wife to get the second keys and get away from the car. The car continued to run normally. It wasn't until I turned it off and went to restart it that it gave me a notification that there are no keys. The manual doesn't say anything about this. I consider this to be a very serious manufacturing fault. LEXUS asked me €800 to replace the key. Sorry for the google translation.

Once the car is turned on, it will continue to operate even if the key is then removed from the vehicle. There are pros and cons to this operation but this is how it was designed to work.

If you do get another key, it would be advisable for your Lexus to wipe all the keys programmed and re-add your remaining existing key as well as the new one. That way the lost key wouldn't be able to be used if it were found and traced to your vehicle.

Thanks for the reply, but I can't figure out what the advantages are. Conversely if I stop somewhere and lock but I'm in microwave range someone can get in the car and drive away like a master

The advantages are considered to be one doesn't need to remove the key from one's pocket/handbag to unlock/lock or start the car.

If the car is looked one would have to be within 0.5m of the door for the unlock to function. BTW there is no microwaves involved simply rf (radio frequency)!

Your handbook details the operating range requirements for the smart access to work. Also details how one can disable the function should one feel it irrelevant or too mush of a security concern.

The reason is it would be dangerous if the car just randomly shut down when being driven because the key fob developed a fault or the Battery went flat.

In theory the key needs to be inside the vehicle before the vehicle can be started (it has multiple sensors and expects a high signal strength to know the key is very close) but this isn't fool proof and a reason why Relay attacks work. Your LBX key will go to sleep if it isn't moved for 5 minutes, that prevents relay attacks so you don't need to keep your key in a Faraday pouch when at home.

Mine tells you immediately “Key Not Detected” if you walk away.  Of course it might not if the second key was present.

Mines does the same, I have noticed it does this if in the same pocket as my mobile phone.

Spiridon have you not considered going back to the place where you lost the key, chances are it slid off the roof immediately or maybe contact the local police if they still handle lost property in Greece ( unlike the UK police now)

You were lucky to get 2 keys, I mentioned this possibly happening when they only gave out one key initially.

Apparently on some LBX models you can use a “Smartphone” to act as a key which would save you the €800.00 replacement cost.

This happens when you try to start the car and there is no key
