The 12v Battery is fine, doors unlock ok, however I've been trying to sort out the two keys for my wife & myself. I get no indication on the dash & nothing happens when I press the 'Power' button, it seems dead.

Having been playing about with two keys in quick succsession, have I activated the immobiliser & does it reset?

I’d leave one key in the house and try putting the other right over the start button for about 10 seconds see if that works, I think this method is used when the remote Battery is low

Thanks Bob99, I'm not sure if it was holding the key over the power button, or just leaving it alone for a while, but panic over the car starts.

Thanks again, it's nice to know there are people like you, willing to help others.

Are you warned in some way when the Battery of the key is low or is about to run low (audible warnings, on the display, or LEDs on the key)?
Also, do you think you can safely remove the Battery on the spare key to prevent it from discharging over time?

My Ux and previous IS comes up with a warning on the screen when low, also the dealer should change the batteries at service time I think it was after 2 years didn’t think it was yearly. I’d leave the Battery in the second key but remember to take it with you when you get the car serviced. I changed the batteries in my IS a few times without issues.

No problems here, changed batteries a few times over the years, they can last up to 2 yrs. When low I get a yellow warning triangle icon on the dash and a message clearly saying key fob Battery low. duracell 2032 generally £2 each.

You can switch the second key into sleep mode:

The battery-saving function will be activated
in order to prevent the electronic key
Battery and the 12-volt Battery from being
discharged while the vehicle is not in operation
for a long time.
● In the following situations, the smart entry
& start system may take some time to
unlock the doors.
• The electronic key has been left in an
area of approximately 3.5 m (11.5 ft.) of
the outside of the vehicle for 40 seconds
or longer.
• The smart entry & start system has not
been used for 5 days or longer.

● If the smart entry & start system has not
been used for 14 days or longer, the
doors cannot be unlocked at any doors
except the driver’s door. In this case, take
hold of the driver’s door handle, or use
the wireless remote control or the
mechanical key, to unlock the doors.

■ Turning an electronic key to Battery saving
mode:

When battery-saving mode is set, Battery
depletion is minimized by stopping the
electronic key from receiving radio
waves.
Press twice while pressing and
holding .
Confirm that the electronic key indicator
flashes 4 times.
While the battery-saving mode is set, the
smart entry & start system cannot be used.
To cancel the function, press any of the
electronic key buttons."
