TPMS light again!?

Recommended Posts

This TPMS is becoming a pain I had the light coming on and off, until it permanently stayed on

Got to a tyre shop the guy checked it one of the sensor batteries had gone..it got changed and reprogrammed he said ..

I have been driving around for 40mins and the TPMS light is still on.

Any ideas why it's still on guys Thanks

Hi didn't change the whole tpms sensor did he and not just the Battery? I ask because some tpms units are sealed as they don't want people changing batteries. If the unit is not sealed and the Battery can be changed did he definitely change the Battery in 'your' sensor and not just fit another they had laid around.

I went to a tyre fitter place with three sensors working and one not. They fitted a brand new sensor and the bloke was adamant "just drive the car around mate and it will pick it up" - er not unless the ECU is clairvoyant. I went back and his colleague corrected him, they have to be coded to the car. Probably like they do on most lexus cars. They couldn't do my car. Anyway I have techstream and just did they job they should have done. Coded it to the car and the light extinguished.

If your original tpms was indeed refitted with new Battery, you could trying holding the tpms reset button further down on the steering column for 10 seconds to reset the system.

They changed the whole TPMS sensor they can't change the Battery it's sealed apparently.

I asked them if it was coded to the car they said it was ..so either they didn't do it or they can't, will have to go back there tomorrow.

They gave me the same BS about driving it around and it will clear.

When changing TPMS sensors the general recommendation is to change all 4 together. This is because theyre all of a similar age and when one dies the other ones typically give up not too long after. I suspect this is what has happened in your case and a different sensor has failed this time. The batteries typically last anywhere between 5-10 years so maybe they're at the end of their life. Might be worth changing the remaining 3 as well.

Thats if you buy it from lexus. Heres a pack of 4 original for ~£140. It used to be 99 now its gone up. Just double check the part no. Ofcourse your tyre fitter will charge more on top to install it https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314744519951

Just an update i managed to sort it out at the tyre place when i went back ...They re-coded it again but this time they put air in the tire and when i drove  it the light went out i now regret not doing all for at the same time ...Looks like when it is done air must be pumped through the valve to get it working .

  Thanks for all the replies
