Lexus tracker

Recommended Posts

My LC500 is having the Lexus tracker fitted tomorrow - does anyone have any comments about it's effectiveness or the installation process?

I had mine fitted a few days ago, only because it was free, i personal don't se the point of them, when there are products out there which will stop 95% of thieves stealing the car in the first place, my Ghost stoped them taking mine, ok if and when they can bypass the Ghost then a tracker my then be worth it, until of course they can also bypass the tracker.

Totally Agree Chris..!!!

I already had a cat S5 tracker, which allows ME to track the car on the app. As I understand it, the Lexus one is a cat S7, which only allows the tracker co to track the car after it’s gone missing. A geofence device can also be provided by Lexus which I’m guessing would ping your phone when the car leaves a predetermined area.

Lexus refunded me half the cost of my tracker a couple of months ago, rather than fit theirs alongside my existing better tracker. I also had an immobiliser upgrade fitted when my tracker was fitted - that imho is essential.

An Immobiliser is the only sensible option - having a tracker doesn’t stop it being nicked, and relying on a third party to track the car using Lexus’s tracker didn’t appeal.

The key to all of this is some sort of visible deterrent. Trackers and immobilisers still don’t stop attempted theft.

I have just had a Tracker fitted to my car by Lexus, I dont know which one it is but i can use the app to find my car, it brings the location up on Google maps. i can also look at previous trips the car has made

Hi Wendle. I had my tracker fitted on Friday. It was obviously registered by Lexus but I'm not sure if I need to do anything? I've downloaded the Tracker app but it asks for a token number which I don't have, so not sure what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you have the Geo Fencing OBD device fitted also? The Tracker on its own is an S7 device, which does not allow you to track the car via the Tracker App. The Geo Fencing device does but it needs to be registered by the dealership. You will then receive an email with the token you need to use the app.
I had both fitted but the dealer only registered the S7 Tracker, so I went back and they registered the Geo Fencing device shortly after.

Hi. I don't know, I got emailed the S7 registration from Tracker but that's it. I presume the OBD device wasn't fitted then as the dealership wasn't very helpful. When I first got there they said it didn't need to Can-bus plate but I argued against that so they contacted Lexus who confirmed it needed fitting. Nothing was said when I collected the car about the Tracker. It was my first experience of a Lexus dealership and I wasn't impressed. I won't bother contacting them, at least it has the tracker. There's nothing on the invoice only the plate and the S7 tracker.

I rang the tracker company and they sent me a email while I was on the phone which gave me the registration number, I think the token number was a bar code which was on the information that the dealership gave me

Hi. I received an email from Tracker more or less straight away which has my membership number and serial number but no combination works in the app. I'll ring tracker tomorrow and see what they say. Thanks for your replies.

I had the Lexus supplied tracker and the OBD device fitted to my NX so I may be able to help you with the process of getting it all working with the Tracker app.

It's the OBD device that you need to associate with the app (which will then allow you to view the car's location; set geofence parameters; view previous trips; etc.). Therefore you will need to know the serial number and security token for the OBD device. In my case I received an email from Tracker approximately 2 weeks after fitment with all of these details provided so that I could get the app working. If you don't receive anything from Tracker in the next few days (and you definitely have the OBD device fitted), I would contact Tracker on 0345 602 2356.

Hope this helps.

I would call the dealership and get them to register it ( once they have confirmed that they have  fitted the Geo Fencing device) . You should receive an email with in a couple of hours.

Yeah, I haven't received that yet, so hopefully I will, as long as they fitted the OBD unit which I'm not counting on. I'll see if I get an email in the next week or two. Thanks again.

When I bought my car from Lexus Hedge End they also fitted the tracker with Geo fencing for me so like others here I can track it and also Geo Fence when I park somewhere or even at home.

I posted this in a different forum which is my experience regarding the tracker,

I had mine fitted to my RX Tuesday last week both the tracker and the OBD. I left the dealer with the Tracker card and was told I would be sent documents by Tracker. I rang Tracker today as I hadn't received anything and they emailed the dealership and it is now sorted.  They don't issue stickers as they don't believe advising a would be thief that a tracker is fitted so they don't go looking for it. The Tracker fitted is a S7 Locate as far as I am aware and Lexus have paid for a 3 year subscription but it does not seem to be transferable to a new owner if you sell the car. That is what the Tracker T & C s say however it might be different as Lexus paid for the subscription and not me. My car is a 2016 so already 8 years old so I doubt if I still have the car in 3 years time I will renew it.

From my understanding of the system I don't actually see the point of the geofence on the app as if it is on apparently you will get an alert by email every time you drive the car that needs a response back to Tracker to say the car is not being stolen within the range selected for any given location.  You can set this to a range of 250m to 5000m.  The other option on the app is to use safe mode with will alert Tracker if the car is moved at all.  This does mean you will have to turn in on and off every time you enter or leave the car via the app which although a pain seems to be the best option.

So with this Tracker, Pandora Storm Immobiliser and plates fitted I don't see what much else can be done to make the my car any more protected from theft.

Update. Using the safe on and off mode I do find sometimes I still get an email alert from tracker regarding safe mode but not on every occasion.  I have a cheap stand alone tracker on my SC430 and the alert system is much better as the tracker sends a notification and text to my phone if the car moves or vibration detected. Obviously it is not tracked by a third party but I would know where the car is whereas with the new monitored Tracker as soon as you let them know it has been stolen you cannot track it yourself on the app. I guess this is to stop you getting involved with dealing with the thieves which you probably wouldn't want to do anyway.

It was free and it might make insurance easier so I went for it. The best option obviously is to stop them driving it off in the first place.

Watched a couple of LC500 YouTube videos today and boy I really want one.

The Geo Fencing Device just sends you an email if you haven’t disabled it. It doesn’t contact Tracker.
It has been fitted so that you are alerted when the car moved and then you can call up Tracker to alert them of the Theft. They will then activate the tracker on the car. The Tracker has no way of alerting you in this instance.
The Tracker is a one time use device so will need to be replaced if the car is recovered. You cannot renew the subscription after 3 years on this device, as a new Tracker will need to be fitted. Despite what the T&Cs state, there is an owner transfer form with the emailed Tracker paper work, so it is possible that a new owner can still use the device, if it is still with it’s 3 year lifespan.

I think the combination of this ‘disposable’ S7 Tracker Retrieve and Geo Fencing device is a cheaper option than an all in one S5 device. It’s also Battery operated so no possible issues with Battery draining in the Future.

These devices have made absolutely no difference to my insurance premium.

Not ideal but I guess acceptable as a free option.

Just a heads up to anyone having the plate, tracker and geo fencing done. I phoned Tracker today and they've informed me the OBD wasn't fitted to my car. I wouldn't have gotten the plate if I hadn't insisted, so when booking yours in make sure you confirm you will be getting all three.
