Starting this morning the cooling fan kicked in, I suspect the sensor is faulty. Trying to locate sensor to replace i... could there be an alternative issue (doesn't run on with the key off)

I assume you mean at full speed because they will operate at low speed if the AC is on.

The fan temp. sensor is at the bottom of the radiator. Disconnect it on an IS300 should start the fans, to stop them you need to bridge the two pins together on the connector. If they don't stop then it is possibly a stuck relay.
