2010 RX 450H HID bulb replacement issue

Hi everyone,

 

I'm swapping out the HID bulbs on my 450H with some brighter ones. 

 

I've picked these up:

Once installed, they come on for about 2-3 seconds and then automatically turn off. I've double checked all the connections and they're at the same wattage as the original Phillips bulbs already in there. 

 

The only difference is that these are D2S and the ones in the car are D4S - although a quick Google search showed that the difference is only that D4S are only more environmentally friendly.

 

Anyone have experience with this?

Not the only difference, they differ in their electrical characteristics.

the D4 is the Mercury(Hg)-free version of the D2. it's electrical characteristics are slightly different than the D2 (higher inrush current, longer time to get to steady state, etc.), and it does require a ballast designed specifically for it.

Recently changed both of mine after one stopped working.

Philips also sell 150% brightness d4s bulbs, which is what I went for. Changed both at the same time and they're working perfectly.

Changed my original IS 300h HID bulbs this week - car is 10 years and one of the original OEM bulbs finally went out. I went with Osram Xenarc 220 D4S. On removing them, the OEM were marked Osram Xenarc. I looked at the reviews on the Philips ones too and they also looked very good. My new Osram Xenarc 220 bulbs are certainly an improvement over the original OEM bulbs but perhaps not surprising given the original were 10 years old.
