Hi Everyone,

Someone decided to hit my car while parked. This has caused havoc to my life as I needed car for medical emergency, and an alternative is getting sorted by Admiral.

The person who hit the car was kind enough to leave their number. However, when I checked my dash cam I realized that my car recorded incident after impact, which is good. However, I wanted to check if there is another dashcam that always record? Even if the car is parked?;

Hi Gaurav

I've had a Road Angel Ultima fitted with front and rear cameras. You can set it to record when you're away from the car. I'm still getting used to it myself but it can be set to time lapse or motion to activate it. It's available from Costco (£215) but you also need a hardwiring kit (Argos) too.

Blackvue dashcams have a motion detection feature but that means continuous recording in a busy car park that's useless as it will record everything that moves even birds in the sky. (Sharing from experience)

If the power source is your 12v Battery you will have a flat Battery in a space of  a day or 2 potentially leaving you stranded with a no start condition. Then you need a jump pack to get you going again. There is a feature built into modern dashcams to stop recording once the voltage drops below a certain range i.e. 12.1v but that defies the purpose as it will record motion that you don't need & when a bump happens it didn't record because to save your Battery.

The 12v Battery is small / low capacity that's fitted to the IS300H & not designed for continuous recording. Many people have explored upgrading to a larger  Battery but it won't fit into the boot compartment. In fact there are heaps of posts about the 12v Battery I'd safely say  this is the IS300H acĥilles heel.

The best option is to get an external Battery back to power your dash cam. With the caveat its not a cheap option.
