I drove the car for over an hour this morning with no change. The light is still flashing with 5 beeps every 2 minutes.

I have seen the Battery change video and could barely watch when he used the stanley knife and then, sure enough, he very nearly slashed his thumb. I'm also not sure his method of breaking the bead seal wouldn't damage the sidewall of the tyre. A good idea to replace the batteries but the process is questionable.

I went back to F1 Autocentres to meet the area manager who checked all sensors with his machine and no signal was received from any of the 4 wheels. He then had one of the tyres removed and the sensor had no physical damage and his device got no signal from the TPMS.

His diagnosis was that all 4 batteries are flat as they are 18 years old. I asked how he knows the age of the batteries and his answer was that I told him the car is 18 years old. I explained that I am the second owner and don't know if they are the original sensors.

Anyhow, he said they can replace all of them with pattern or original parts. The branch manager was unable to get a price for pattern parts but 4 sensors from Lexus would be £570. I think the area manager said they would charge for parts only but can't remember fully.

I declined and am going to either a Specialist or main dealer for a second opinion. Though I do think the batteries are dead.

Question….was your TMPS light on the dash before you had the tyres fitted ?

The TPMS light wasn't on until they replaced the tyres. Nor was it beeping every 2 mins.

Did you watch him use the testing machine ?

On reflection would have been an idea for him to show you the test equipment working on a good car first.

     Any independent garages near you that can test your TPMS.

my 2007 car had the TPMS light on the dash for a few months until I replaced the batteries, it never made a beeping sound 🤔

How about disconnecting the Battery, see if it resets anything ?

I was with him when he checked the sensors and he showed me the setup screen with the correct car details 06 - 10 SC430. In order to check the machine he tried it on his own car which worked showing pressure temperature etc. I also saw the wheel sensor with the tyre removed. I read somewhere that the light comes on with low pressure and the beeps with very low pressure.

Did you just replace the batteries or the whole units?

I will disconnect the Battery tomorrow and see what happens.

There is an independent Toyota garage in Meopham that I was going to contact as my next step.

Well it seems he done all he could to show you that your batteries are dead ☹️
For me I just replaced the batteries it’s not recommended but as a retired engineer/mechanic I had the ability to do the job . 
     Job worked out fine, my 2007 TPMS  it’s a different system to the 2006 cars, I have a reset button and a choice of summer/ winter wheels, same as the GS cars.

I don't mind soldering new batteries in the sensor, it is the breaking of the tyre bead that is the problem for me. I had considered asking if they would remove the sensors for me but I am losing faith in the garage.

If you have another vehicle in the household, take the SC wheels to a different garage and get them just to pop the outer rims .

      Then tyre bars or screwdriver push the tyre down and put blocks of wood in like I did .

   Buy four new TPMS fitting kits from Lexus or Toyota and follow one of the tutorials on eBay .

That sounds like a plan. Do you have Battery details and where did you buy yours? I presume you bought batteries with tags.

Batteries are CR2450, I went for tag free and soldered direct onto each face, the solder tags ones are more expensive yet easer to solder on .

   With solder tags you would have to dig out the circuit board as well ..to get to the solder connectors.

NOTE OF WARNING…batteries can explode if heated too much, so suggest going with solder tags…your choice 👍🏻

Thanks Bob, I'll take a look inside one and decide which type to go with. Sounds like I will need to get all 4 of my trolley jacks out and get the car in the air.

This was one of mine, see how the tags disappear into the sealer on the circuit board.

I think I see the point you are making. In the video I saw, I think he soldered the existing tab to the new on the Battery. I will watch it again.

I have removed the first TPMS sensor. Not without damage to the thread on the valve stem on removing the old fitting kit which had seized. The replacement kits I bought (04423-33060) have a larger diameter so can't check thread.

However, on testing the Battery it is showing 2.8 volts which I would think should be sufficient to work. I could be wrong and I am prepared to be corrected if anyone knows otherwise.

I'm thinking that for the MOT on pre 2012 cars there is zero need to have the TPMS working  .........  might be one could be happy living with these things just not working !

Rules might have changed since I last saw mention of these on this Forum of course🤔

Looks like you might be right about the 2012 date which I was mot aware of so assumed a TPMS light on would be a MOT failure. Bob may be the best person to advise.
 

Something else I did spot that I wasn’t aware of while checking this out is that a tyre over 10 years old on a steerable front axle is also a failure because of the age regardless of condition. Makes you wonder how safe the tyres are on all these classic cars that don’t need an MOT.

Indeed 2012 was the year the TPMS would have fail on the mot test …sadly some testers are not upto speed with the regulations. My car failed on the TPMS light in 2016 which it shouldn’t have, would of have a totally clear mot history other than that 😠

   Not read the regulations this year….will go take a peak 👍🏻

Tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS)

The inspection of the tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is for M1 vehicles first used on or after 1 January 2012.

The TPMS warning lamp (see diagram 3) will generally illuminate and go off again when the ignition is switched on. If the system has identified a previous pressure loss, the lamp will remain illuminated. This does not automatically mean the system has a malfunction. In the event of a system malfunction, the lamp may flash a number of times and then remain on.

Warning messages on dashboard displays are not a defect in their own right, but may assist the tester in determining that the warning lamp is illuminated because a malfunction exists.

If it is unclear the warning lamp is indicating a system malfunction and not a simply indicating that one or more tyre pressures are low, then advisory information should be added to the test result.

I asked if the wheels were put refitted in their original position and they said they were. Is this going to require a visit to Lexus to dianose the problem?

Lost Count Of How Many Times i Have Heard Of This..Take your Car to The Dealership to get Tyres Replaced...They will Negotiate price Same as any Other Garage and it Will be Re- calibrated By One of the Technicians  I.E. Properly..!!!! Cheers..!

The saga continues:

I have replaced all of the batteries in the sensors to no avail. The light and beeps continue, as I suspected they would when the existing batteries measured between 2.8 and 2.9 volts.

I will disconnect the Battery and see if that does any sort of a reset. Beyond that I think the only course of action is to go to Lexus or a specialist.
